What would be a fair price to pay a farmer to leave some corn standing for dove hunting?

I’d give him a little extra than market, it might get him a little behind/inconvenient getting back ready in the spring. Shouldn’t be a big deal at all though

Yep. Depends on the situation , but most would figure the size of area left standing on an acre basis and what ever the bushel per acre the rest of the field runs would be the multiplier.

I guess whatever he wants it to be if he’s leasing the field 😂

I would say the value of the standing corn then double that amount for the fact that he will have to modify his field prep to accommodate the left over corn and you are also paying him for the privilege of hunting.

Just some thoughts....Harvesting of the field probably won't occur until after the start of dove season. I am not familiar enough with regulations but thought hunting is permitted over a legitimate agriculture harvested field. There will be a decent amount of corn left after the harvest if it is harvested with mechanical equipment (combine/picker).

I'm not following the modify field prep part. Only thing our farmers do is alter the "pattern" when picking . Say he's running a 8 row head , in a large field , he would most likely leave 8 row strips scattered about , instead of a long row or two long the full length of the field.

Acre corn = ~150-200 bushels
1 bushel corn = 56lbs

Some may rotate in a winter crop and may have to delay field prep or return later to complete in areas left with standing corn. Essentially, it could be extra work at some point that they may not have had to do because some of the field was left until later.

Yeah, I could see that if the farmer wanted to plant wheat immediately after the corn was picked , depending on planting method used.

A fair price is whatever both parties are happy with.

No need to leave any standing unless you just want a place to hide. They’ll be plenty on the ground. Just be there a week after he harvests it if dove season is still in.

The farmer only has a farming lease on the field, the owner is giving us permission to hunt it. The farmer does not plant a winter crop on these fields and I would be more than happy to come bushhog what he leaves standing. He is a good guy and just says give him what we think is fair, I want to make sure we are more than fair with him.

Fair price in my opinion would be to figure out how many bushels to the acre he is averaging on that field
Then figure out how many acres you want to leave standing and give him what market value
Is going for per bushel.
