“Our team took DNA from a 13,000-year-old tooth and a 72,000-year-old skull and made healthy dire wolf puppies,” says Colossal CEO and co-founder Ben Lamm, in a statement. They are expected to mature at 130 to 150 pounds — by contrast, a typical gray wolf clocks in at about 80-100 pounds. How could this possibly end up going south ? Wolf reintroduction has worked great in Yellowstone. Helps keep the Elk herd numbers low...

Hog dogs! Let them keep their catch (may not have a choice, though).
…but seriously, sure let’s reintroduce an apex predator, to supersede the current genus top dog we’re trying to manage reintroduction of…sort’a. *** (sarcstrics)
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

Yup...like Dr Malcolm said...these animals didn't disappear due to deforestation or a dam being built....nature SELECTED them for extinction.

Best friend from home had a 75% Timber cross male, bought from a defunked tracking program at Parchman Penitentiary...Dire was his name, of course. Beautiful animal, but also in the back of my mind, terrifying. 120lb of muscle, teeth and brains that we only thought we had control over. I gained his trust wrestling around with him after a long nights out...inhibitions were low. Always asked myself WTF were you thinking!?!? At age 3, his natural dominance and aggression took over and he ended up having to be put down, as his bid for Alpha in the "pack" was happening more often.
