We pay between $50-$60 for 2500 seeds. Some varieties only offer the 25k seed packs that plants 1 acre.

We pay between $50-$60 for 2500 seeds. Some varieties only offer the 25k seed packs that plants 1 acre. The math works out if you expect 1 ear to the stalk and youre selling it retail, 3 ears for a dollar or more. The money is there but thats still alot for corn seed. Pretty sure i pay $12-14/lb for what i plant and i kinda enjoy plowing it, thats my tractor therepy. Im just a little too thrifty to pay for RR patents. I do pay royalties on alot of the peach trees we plant but thats a dollar or two a tree and theyll make you several thousand dollars over a lifetime. Thats better math for me.

It is on the expensive side. All hybrid sweet corn seed is expensive. If I was growing for profit, I’d find a variety that wasn’t as expensive and hope I could find one that’s tastes as good as the varieties I plant. I keep threatening to try conventional sweet corn varieties but my ground is old soybean ground and the weed seed bank runs deep. The 1 application of glyphosate helps with that problem. Every time I plow between the rows I dig up new weed seed so I plow once and spray after the weeds germinate and don’t open the ground again. Also the people I give the corn to love the varieties I grow so I keep planting the same ones. Also that price is with shipping included.
