I never did post this one up back during the season....... mainly because I couldn’t figure out why my phone wouldn’t let me post the pic the hunter sent me…..Turned out to be an issue with having different kinds of phones…..

Anyways, we got the call to track this one late one night in January…..We don’t let too many get away but long story short we never could work through the clutter of multiple searchers and another dog already being on the track ahead of us……They had already taken it 800 yards……..Looking back on it I think all the buggies were actually parked right on top of where the deer ran…..They ended up finding him in a pond a week later about a mile from last blood……It was likely a low brisket/leg shot that the coyotes eventually caught up to……Not sure what he would score but he’s a typical 7x6……You don’t see that too often……..

I’m glad they eventually found it……That one hurt a little when they sent me the pic…..I sure would have liked to have recovered it the night we were out there…..It happens though….. Sometimes things just don’t go your way……We made a big loop out around last blood to try and pick up on his track out ahead of the search party clutter but never did hit on anything…..I think the one direction we didn’t look is probably where he went……Right down the road we drove in on and where the search party was parked and congregating…..That was the direction where they eventually found him…….

A buddy lost a good one from too many people stomping around looking. Sometimes less is more.

Fine buck. I've lived by my own rule of if the shot feels good and I don't find blood where I think I shot him at or a short distance I back out and call a dog. I'm very fortunate and thankful to have a good friend that love to bring his dog out and watch him work and they are both very good at it.
