I've got a Nikon 3-9x40 and a Leupold 4-10x50 on two different 22 mags.
No problem at 200 yards.

I've got a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 AO on a CZ 457 American .22 lr and I like it a lot. The size doesn't look too out of place. I would assume the OD bell diameter would
be about the same size as the 44 that you are looking at. All that to say, I don't think that the scope you are looking at is overkill.

It was getting such good reviews i took the chance .. glad I did

Hard to beat those.
I bought a case of them years ago on a closeout sale for less than $10/unit.
I’ve used several and gave a lot of them away.
Nice little rimfire scopes.
