The further south the later it seems to be. East of the river is below Selma. I would be going.

Take your shorts and flip flops. Gonna be June all week.

I hunted that area of the state from several years. There is some good hunting still to be had between now until the close of season. Like others above, I'd go.

Take your shorts and flip flops. Gonna be June all week. Getting a few mid winter growing days on the cereal grains too. Should boost some food plots.

The younger bucks are hitting the food sources hard trying to gain the weight lost from constantly being on the go since the first of Jan. The bigger bodied and stronger bucks are still roaming looking for a doe that hasn't been bred and will come in heat again.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

In the Pleasant Hill/Minter area, We got all excited when they extended the season until February. In truth, I don't think we've killed all that many big deer after January ends, but we tend to be serious about bucks from MLK weekend until the season is over.. I'd say the "peak" of the rut is the last 2 weeks of Jan, but I'd be hunting bucks hard from MLK through the first week of Feb. None of these rules or peaks are written in stone. Would I rather hunt mature bucks in late January than early December? Sure, but I don't turn down an invitation in Dallas County any time. .
Used to be a lifeguard, until that blue kid got me fired.

When we had our lease in Snow Hill, the peak rut started right at MLK weekend, and was done by the end of January.
