Had a bump come up on my gum been dipping 20 yrs and smoking 17 yrs. Scared the shit out of me and I decided to quit. I've started vaping and using nicotine pouches. The vape has done a good job curbing me on cigarettes, but the nicotine pouches don't come close to dip. Have any of yall found a good dip alternative?

I quit chewing after watching a good friend go through gum cancer. They had to give him radiation treatments. His tongue and throat swelled up and he couldn't eat so they inserted a feeding tube into his stomach and he was on a liquid diet for eight weeks. He lost about 50 lbs. The radiation cooked his vocal cords and when he finally could talk he sounded like Mickey Mouse. That lasted for months. He finally got over it all but it definitely was difficult for him and his family. Ref the cigarettes. JWalker is right. You just have to be more stubborn. I have mine down to one a day usually, sometimes I'll skip a few days, sometimes when I'm camping or in the woods all day might have two. Its still smoking, I know, but at my age its not like its going to cut short my long and promising life anyway.

You just have to be done with it and quit. Smoking was easy dipping I quit for 3 years started back and quit a year or so again. Did the zin and other things a while but they ate my lip up too so I went cold turkey again and haven’t had anything in 6-8 months now.

I chewed from the time I was in 6th grade until I was 55. I reached over to get a dip at halftime of the Sugar Bowl in January of 2014. The only Tim I could fine was empty. I figured that was an omen and haven’t touch it since. However, I don’t say I quit then, I say i started quitting then. I was running a chainsaw this afternoon and thought about a dip. I quit cold turkey. I don’t know that it can be done any other way.

What he said
and There are thousands of quitting tricks because everybody is just different enough than anything can become addictive. Diet Coke addiction is real, we all know that guy. Alcohol was a dang road out of hell to just say I dont want it. My method was what worked for me.
Do not campare to thers. Just look and think about your own feelings about what you know works for you. If you learned better from a butt whooping, maybe hard quit is butt-whooping from your responsibilites (not advice).

Look at the popular methods on any website out there. Dont look for quick and easy, just look for what you thinkk will work for year. ask your closest whoever what they think about your choices and what they no of you.
I know I guy who quit a bucket of drugs, but he did each methodically one at a time over two years, and with each one he got feeling better until they were all gone.
Oh and then there is this, if you are impatient, maybe its the drugs causing it?

Quit cold turkey. You just gotta want it. Asked myself if I was a man or a little boy. Just man up and tough it out. Seen a dude who had to get his jaw removed from dipping and he looked like a damn carp. Terrible stuff regret I ever started.

I quit smoking 10 years ago. Bought a new house and a new truck. Didn’t want them to smell from smoke. One day at the farm sitting by the fire after dinner I lit the Marlboro. Couple of drags I’m like this taste like sh!t. Never had another.

Just quit the nasty stuff before you die. You don't need anything just put it down and don't pick it back up. Dipped for 20 yrs quit one night.

If your daily nicotine intake is anywhere near what mine was, lessening the nicotine will actually prolong withdrawals and making life more miserable.
I tried to quit a few times but really didn't want to. As far as vaping, that stuff will fug up ya lungs. When I made up my mind, it was cold turkey. Man up, you can do it!

Mind over matter. You gotta want to quit and make that decision, then do it. After you go without for 48-72 hours you’ll be home free. It’s easy to find ways to keep using it. The hard work is committing to it and making it happen.

You understand Matt, 500 acres, gotta walk and work all of it, only chance to do it, in "one inconvenient day". Its the Skinny/Matt Brock intersection of reality. Nicotine loves that crap.

I was smoking a pack and a half a day. I noticed my infant niece would cry whenever I held her. One day I laid her down, went and grabbed a shower and picked her up again after the shower. That was the first time I held her that she didn't cry. My grandmother told me it was the smoke smell. I got the message. If an infant was smart enough to figure it out, I needed to quit.

I kept a peppermint in my mouth anytime I had a craving. I kept a toothpick in my mouth as well. It filled the hand to mouth motion I'd developed. Then, like Jwalker said. You gotta be more stubborn than nicotine. It will take a few months to purge the desire. And when you are around other smokers, it will be hard. I'd not smoked in a very long time when a friend was killed. Our group of friends were gathered and most of them smoked. I took one and regretted it instantly. Made me sick enough to vomit.

Never had the craving again.
