Found him with a drone alive, gonna sneak in on him in the morning…. I feel there is a famous city limit hunter out there doing this very thing to find his big ol booners before he goes to door knocking….

I’ve been watching a LOT of drone recovery videos, THAT technology can ruin hunting for deer and turkey. It’s fascinating, but you can scan a whole 80 acre plot and find the deer or flock of turkeys you want to kill.
I had no idea you could see the deers rack and/or wound.

If we aren't careful, we are going to decimate our wild game population. It's already an unfair advantage in favor of the hunter. This would just multiply it x10.

Do you think ol JR will get a door knock?

Today with snow on the ground deer may be easy to spot. The infered camera could/would be deadly.

I could be wrong but I think they made it illegal to use drones on public land??

It sound like JR and his buddy need to get their hiking boots on. They also need to spend some time at the range.

Surprised it's legal at all. It's ignorant if that applies to "public" land only. I'm glad that it's 100% illegal here.
In Oregon that would earn me my choice of 5pts or $1000, whichever I preferred. Some guys recently got nailed locating game with thermals

I’m somewhat familiar with this situation. The deer was shot on public legally on video, known to be a gut shot. They got private access to bring in a drone and found deer on private land bedded down but still alive probably 300 yards from where it was shot. If coyotes didn’t run it, probably still there this morning.

I thought using drone on public land was illegal.If so Using it to locate the deer and then going to recover the deer alive or dead would also be illegal. If the deer is still on public land that is.

Well it appears this post has become popular on AL deer as well with several comments.. I’ll clear the air for everyone.. The shooter is a friend of mine, he researched and found a place he wanted to hunt on his own; although I live here I’ve never hunted Skyline.. He parked and met a guy who hunted private in area and was quickly told he couldn’t go thru the private on the road.. so he and buddy made the climb, found area they liked; buck comes thru on doe and he made a bad hit; it happens… From 9am until I contacted people I know to help them recovery or access; only dog guy willing had to have a a ride; I called a guy in area and he said that there’s no reason to ask because he knew the answer would be NO.. J.R. Hall called around and even made this post to try and help this young man recover his deer.. I spoke with Matt Moran the GW for Jackson Co. as well to make sure everything he did was legal.. He shot the deer on public and saw that it went on private; once I got the info I realized I knew the landowner personally !!!He gave them permission to use his property to fly the drone on private to attempt to recover!! They found the deer still alive and monitored it!! They slept in this am ; they are NOT attempting to go on the private as of now; if they do it will be with permission from the landowner .. I hope this helps all the people that feel they are doing something illegal on ALdeer or other places.

FYI the drone is illegal on public land but the deer was on private ; he gained permission to fly it on the private.

This young man did his own research; hiked lord knows how far to the area and found a good mature deer to shoot; he just didn’t make the best shot.. afterwards he did everything in his power to make a clean legal recovery!!
