Well, in their defense, calling the single dead guy laying in the street at the scene a lone wolf, does make their jobs a whole lot easier and they can get right back in the office. It's going to be really cold next week and it wouldnt be any fun to be out in that having to look for clues and chase other potential bad guys. Lone wolf is nice and tidy.
