When mom passed in 1992, dad bought 4 plots. When he passed in 2017 we put him next to mom. So now we have 2 extras that we don’t know what to do with. 2 of my siblings are married and live out of state and are never coming back to Alabama and my other married sibling wants to be cremated. My wife and I are making other arrangements. Anybody got any experience selling extra burial plots?

A little different but kind of similar. My mother is the last living sibling/child of her parents, out of 7 kids. My grandparents had some extra plots next to where they are buried. Not enough for all the kids because of when they bought them, and some of the kids were grown and married by then. Mom had a deed of some type from the cemetery. A friend of ours dad passed and they didn’t have the money to bury him. So mom gave him the plots, for his dad and step mom. She had to go meet with someone at the cemetery and sign some paperwork transferring ownership.

That’s the problem with cemeteries. I know of several that family are buried in that you can’t visit anymore because of where they are located. Honestly, that’s one of the reasons I’d rather be cremated, so my kids won’t have to worry about it one day.

so here is my problem! We lost our son at a young age! place wanted 3k before they would dig the hole! not much thought went into that! My parents are in a old county cemetary that they want $500 for the hole! so I buy the place buy my parents and leave my son alone, tough thoughts on this for us. I would like to be cremated but my wife says she can't do it to me and I couldn't do it to her!

This is in Prattville right on a major highway so I doubt it will be an issue with location. Gonna talk with siblings and see what their thoughts are. If they are sold we’ll split what little we get. Another thought is to donate them. But I also sorta like the idea of nobody being next to them. They are right next to the road. I can open the car door and take 3 steps be at their headstones. Then there is 2 spaces on the other side of mom. Like a buffer between anyone else and them. Man, the things we have to think about as we go through seasons of life.

I’d keep it as a buffer and cal it good
My parents are in a similar location. Kinda funny when dad kept going to moms gravesite he drive to her site until the cemetery workers caught him. Lol.

First person to talk to is the owner, trustee, random person, whoever it is that keeps up with the cemetery. If the cemetery is privately owned or owned by a Church or other institution then the plots can be sold right back to them easily.

This is the answer. If doing above doesn't work or is not an option, then list on Marketplace and sell.

I've got two high dollar sites out on 72 west. 4K each is the going price.
Take half that for both of them....
