Man, that's eye-opening. I assumed there were some much larger landowners (Monroe County).

That Red Hill West LLC is what FW/ADCNR is buying up.

Can't speak for the entire list but it is not accurate the reason I know is because we are on this list.

Not really sure what the point of this entire thing really is... appears to be Auburn is suggesting we should raise property taxes on timber land so the State can use that money to pay off their campaign contributors..

These same morons would probably tell you that Timber returns 10% PLUS and it's also a great investment.

They can B'ham Fred this.

Idiots.

They need to stay out of politics and stick to more stupid things like telling you Hogs don't respond to hunting pressure and doing research that a group of 4th graders could blow holes all through.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Didn't read the details of how the data was compiled but the list appears to be incomplete/inaccurate. I know several individuals/families that should be on the list that are not.

That landowner summary is not worth the paper that it is written on. I dont disagree with what is listed as being owned by whom or the acreage, but the list is woefully incomplete and inaccurate. I can name 7-10 individuals in SW Alabama, that I know personally, that own more acreage in just the county of their primary holdings, than the lower people and LLCs listed as the major holders for that same county on the list.

Two things to remember when looking at this data. Only counts land used in timber production, not farm land, and it's from the tax year 2012.

Jackson Co is not correct. Bunch of the listed land has been sold to others. When they added more to Skyline a big chunk is now wma.

Strictly timber land producing 20 cubic feet per acre, not forest(10 cubic feet per acre)farm, etc.

This also doesn't take into account properties owned by the same people but under different corporation names. So technically different owners, but the same had person controlling them.

Paul Wellborn is buying up a lot of property in Clay County. Not for timber production.

Exactly. First thing I thought of was did they go deep enough to find the owner of the LLCs? If you do, top 2 or 3 for each county may stay the same, but the rest of the top 10 more than likely changes.

Yep, The same family/entity may own property under several different names/LLCs on the tax rolls which I am sure this info came from. I saw a few on the Monroe County list that own properties under an LLC, Under trusts and individually. Some big landowners don't even show up on the list because of that reason. Large private holdings will continue to fragment as time marches on for obvious reasons. I know of several that have been divided up and or sold out in the past several years.
