Saw some that size today
Saw some a few days ago that couldn’t fly yet
Overall I’ve been seeing more than usual and at an older age class so early hatch did well in the rain.

Awesome rainy Sunday ! Hens bought poults to the hay fields. 1 hen with 7 , 2 hens with 10 and 3 hens with 11. 28 total ! We have seen a hen with 8 so I’m not sure if she was one of those or those are all new . Chicken size on the poults .

I saw 2 hens yesterday. One had 4 the other 6. All the poults were very small. Large quail or small chukar size. Also saw a group of 8 longbeards. They were all full size 😄.

Why so many poults this year?

What can be attributed to the large numbers across the board tit seems. Is this just an Alabama thing or southern happening?
Is it just normal fluctuations or is there an actual reason?

Personally I’m of the opinion it’s like the ruffed grouse population swings up north. They seem to be in a 8 year swing. Riding and falling for no reason to why than it just happens is what I was told way back in the early 2000s.

I’m sure there are local reasoning but this seems to be across the board this year.
It as a very wet spring and always heard that was bad for turkeys and poults in particular

So what gives

Saw a hen with one poult the other morning. Poult was just old enough to fly.

I've seen more poults and jakes in KY this summer than I've seen the past 10yrs combined during the same time of year

Moving the season will be the stated reason by the department. And with as much proof as they had to delay it!
