Yesterday I was granted permission to hunt a little patch of land that butts up to a large parcel of University of Alabama land. I imagine any deer that is shot has a 50% chance of dying on the UA land. I'm trying to figure out who I need to contact on surrounding land in advance for retrieving a deer. I don't want to be trying to figure that out at 9pm on a Saturday night. Anyways, have any of y'all had to deal with getting permission from UA or large timber companies instead of individuals owning smaller tracks of land?

Most large timber companies have 100% of their land leased up every year by the start of the season. Best option is to find out who around you controls the adjoining leases and make contact and arrangements with them ahead of time. Timber company is not going to grant you access to a parcel that someone is paying them to lease. Access will have to be worked out with the leaseholder. I'd assume that U of A leases most of their stuff too. Probably same situation.

All you had to do was tell me this in a text. I know who you need to talk to. 😉

My suggestion is to shoot them through the front shoulder with something other than a .243. That's where I'd start this instead of accepting the deer is going to run off.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

It's bowhunting only.

It's bowhunting only. You mean you don't get DRT shots with your bow ?
