Door opened by guy with a gun in their hand after Sheriff yelled a few times to open door and identified as Sheriff. Sheriff had a split second to either shoot or possibly get shot. He made the right call all day long.

If he knew it was the Sheriff's Dept at the door, he was foolish to have opened the door with the firearm.
And, the body cam footage from the LEO does show that he did request EMS to the location.
Now, it does seem weird to me, maybe, that if you are going to bang on someone's door that you don't stay within visual range if someone looks through the peephole. Of course, I can see the flip side of that, too, because one never knows if whoever is behind that door had a huge problem with LEO and will just blast through the door. But, I could not hear any TV or music from the apartment and the LEO was announcing himself very loudly...twice. If the Airman did not hear him clearly, then he should have yelled back through the door for the officer to repeat himself.
My gut, however, is that this is gonna go in favor of the victim because of the races involved.
I feel like there is something missing from the story, though. Maybe the apartment manager got the unit number wrong because if the Airman was on Facetime with his girlfriend, then what girl was he fighting with that told the apartment manager that things were getting worse?

Those apartment doors are probably thin, but I can tell you at my house, if I wasn’t standing AT the door, I wouldn’t hear chit besides someone aggressively knocking on my door. Way too fast to pull the trigger

It was a very quick trigger. Will have to wait and see when all the evidence comes out. The reality is that if the cop hesitates then he may not go home at the end of the day. And what makes his life more valuable than the one that he took? The guy never raised the gun. I can legally walk around in my home with a gun in my hand, even when I answer the door. The officer saw a gun, drew his own firearm, pointed and shot multiple times. Why? There was no threat made toward the officer. He could have just as easily yelled drop the gun AND gave the guy a chance to do so. If the guy attempted to raise the gun THEN shoot. There will be some issues with this incident. 1. No one from this apartment called the police. 2. The guy wasn’t breaking the law by answering the door with a firearm in his hand. 3. The officer immediately shot multiple times without giving the guy a chance to put down his weapon.

I dont what the rules are at that complex but a simple doorbell camera could have prevented that.

I agree - the deputy was very quick with the gun.

I agree - the deputy was very quick with the gun. I'm not real sure how others see it any differently. The cop wasn't even at the correct apartment, the guy never raised the weapon towards him, and there's nothing wrong with him answering the door to his home with a firearm.
