They had no problem working together to raise the gas tax a few years ago. I remember on of the legislators saying the lottery wouldn’t add as much money to the state as many thought it would. I’d have love to have told him that it shouldn’t be a problem to reduce the state budget by the same amount since it’s not that much money.

No opinion but just aa fact. I live within a mile of 6 lottery retailers. When I go by one and pay attention, 90% of the vehicles are from Alabama since they are right on the line.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Requires state to enter into a compact with the Poarch Creek Indians…They must’ve not liked something about the bill considering a senator from Atmore flipped from yes to no…Sounds like even if we pass a bill, the Poarch Indians still going to have their hands on everything

Also, it appears the majority of senators from N. Alabama are voting no. I’m assuming this is mostly due to N. Alabama not receiving any of the electronic gambling locations.

For online gambling they could very easily just do a tax for general online revenue period and be done with it. The state has no way to insure or regulate an online gaming platform so the only thing they can really do is just make an online revenue tax.

It is sad, but given the level of corruption, I have no faith the money they collected, if doing a lottery, would get to be used for its intended purpose.

That is the problem, they can't figure out who is going to be able to steal from the revenue and how much they will be allowed to steal. When they figure that out then we will have a lottery, gambling, legal prostitution, and legal drugs. Its standard procedure.

Online purchases incur a state sales tax now

Someone, a couple of weeks ago had a winning Powerball ticket that had the five numbers just not the Powerball ticket and it was worth 3 Mil. It was sold at the retailer nearest my home. I guarantee someone from Alabama is walking around with the 3 mil lump sum payout minus taxes richer today.
