Ford just reported a massive loss on every electric vehicle it sold
https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/24/business/ford-earnings-ev-losses/index.html

Ford’s electric vehicle unit reported that losses soared in the first quarter to $1.3 billion, or $132,000 for each of the 10,000 vehicles it sold in the first three months of the year, helping to drag down earnings for the company overall.

In 2023, Ford Model e reported a full-year EBIT loss of $4.7 billion on sales of 116,000 EVs, or an average of $40,525 per vehicle, just more than a third of the first quarter loss.

And that's why they are trying to make it up on all the other F150s.... $75K for a truck is ridiculous. Local dealer has a F250 for $115K!!! It's nice but ain't no truck worth that kind of money

Meanwhile, the folks at Toyota decided to wait and take it slow and steady and let the necessary infrastructure come and go and watched the mistakes of companies like Ford. I'm pretty sure Toyota will eventually become the leading EV car maker because they are smart enough to learn from the other companies' mistakes.

Kids this is what happens when you try to placate the government with your business practices.

If the government knew how to run a business, the United States wouldn't be in debt up to our eyeballs right now.

Spot on I think. BTW, Toyota is selling hybrids like hotcakes.

As far as I can tell, Toyota is selling the only true hybrids, aren't they? Regenerative electric with gas assist. Except for the Tundra Hybrid that is gas with electric assist and isn't for improved fuel economy, only a boost in power.

Honda also has true hybrid technology.

Anyone see the price on Toyota's new Tacoma TRD Pro? Yikes.

I'm still trying to be optimistic that this EV experiment will fail. Or at least hopeful that I will never have to drive an EV in my lifetime. But this $hit show may be too far along.

The people will decide and them and government finding out but hey we been paying for it with our tax dollars so the manufacturers ain’t the only ones that lost. It is and will always just be a fad that is fading away until the next generation of idiots try it.

Hold onto your wallet because if this continues the government will bail them all out before they let the EV sink

An electric motor creates more torque more quickly. It will out pull combustion engine all day long. The electric motors aren’t the weak point it’s the batteries and charging systems

I worked in steel mills for a long time and electric motors ran everything, lifting and pulling 200+ tons all day everyday and extremely rarely did we have any kind of motor failure and these cranes were from the 1920s and 30s. The newer cranes were even better. It’s not the electric that concerns me it’s the batteries. They’re nowhere near ready. And for clarification I don’t have nor intend to buy electric but it has nothing to do with the motors

Yeah they aren't selling either. What ills me is they don't get any better mileage than a full size with a V8, so really the only real benefit to one is its smaller.

You know you can get 2 different supercharger kits for the previous gen Tacoma/4Runner? They run about 7k plus installation. Magnuson and Procharger.

I think ford was salivating for some government money and to be first in the pool.

You’re half right. Electric motors do produce more torque and would out pull a combustion engine….but only if it had a constant power source. Electric vehicles battery will drain quicker with a load and while the owner spends all his time looking for a charging station and then who knows how long charging the battery, the owner of the combustion engine will fill it back up and keep going.
