I'm against home schooling almost 100% of the homeschooled kids I come into contact with I can tell are stupid just by looking at their parents. Living cheap out in the country and home schooling your kids is not putting your children on a pathway for success. I have direct family who does this so I have first hand experience and I've got a couple nieces and nephews that were almost stupid as a result. Instead I helped them. Both parents are highly educated but unfortunately are lazy in life and didn't want to work hard so they moved from one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Atlanta to the middle of nowhere. Homeschooled their kids lived broke didn't work hard so I guess they achieved THEIR life goals. If you were half as smart as you think you are you’d be dangerous.

Tried to pay my best friends to homeschool my son.. I’m not a very smart fella but me and my wife do really well with learning my son how to do his homework when he comes home with no clue… I agree with Mbrock and one statement that goatkiller made. “The exceptions shouldn’t make the rule” lazy, sorry parents that can’t do the work themselves and expect the children to learn their work on their own, shouldn’t ruin it for the rest of them… A lot of good homeschoolers out there that care about their kids future. Most that we know are in college 2 years ahead of the kids their age… My homeschool niece is 16 and has already enrolled at a local community college. She’ll graduate from high school with almost two years of college behind her. She’ll likely be a veterinarian or wildlife veterinarian. She’s got a few years experience with large mammals and works hard. As long as she can get accepted she’s got a good future.

I am not worried in the least about any gun related issue in Missouri. The liberals in STL and KC cant even get their ordinances to keep minors from carrying in public. I'd rank this state in the top of the nation for gun rights and as long as the state legislature isn't manipulated there are too many rural votes to mess with firearms. I bet you'll see teachers carrying in public schools here before any limit is ever put on homeschoolers.
Now, to the direction this thread has taken:
My issue with homeschooling is related to the same issues I have with private schools and that is that kids aren't exposed to a wide variety of ideas and struggles that others have in our society. Am I putting my kids at risk by putting them in schools with drugs, bad behavior, gay/trans teachers and students, and other ills of society? Maybe, but those things exist in the world that they will be a part of and learning how to follow Christ while successfully navigating, having compassion and understanding for others, and thriving economically in that world is my main concern.
Between my wife and myself we are more highly educated than probably all our kids teachers on most subjects they will ever take (minus foreign language and music). However, I'm not sure teacher knowledge is the major factor in my child's education. Finding adult role models outside of parents is important and also understanding how those posing as role models and mentors don't always have kids best interests in their hearts will be very important lessons (and have been).
Anyway, we have toured a couple private Christian schools and have considered sending our kids there, but my wife and I always come back to how we don't think our kids will understand society and become a well rounded Christian by walling off their lives to those with different beliefs/struggles. When having discussions with people I find many are lacking in their relationships or even encounters with those in different ethnic groups, the alphabet group, and those at all levels of the economic spectrum. When that happens it is hard not to sound ignorant and much easier to demonize those that aren't like "how we grew up."

About to pass a home school bill. Seems some big money shady anti gun groups have snuck in a clause that says your home will be declared a school if you home school your kids. And it’s a felony to have guns in school. Not exactly a liberal state and these same groups may be trying to go after other states home school bills. So if y’all know anyone up there tell them to raise hell quick because even done of the so called conservatives in the legistlature are behind the bill wonder if they have been paid off. 😬😬 I think its BS the school seems to think a bus stop in front of someone's house in a neighborhood is also school property. Don't see them maintaining it. An SRO wanted to search my neighbors house because his son posted a hunting pic with a gun on instagram.. Didn't make a threat, she just didn't like him. Thankfully my neighbor told her to go pound sand. Wonder who was watching the school while she was off campus trying to violate peoples rights? Let me get this straight. Your neighbor has a School bus stop near their house . His son posted hunting pics on social media , made no threats , and the SRO came to their house wanting to do a search? If I'm following correctly , this disturbs me more than what Goatkiller posted .I reckon he's allowed to post outrageous nonsense .

"Most" home school kids are intelligent and if parents have them doing social activities are doing just fine. They can even play HS sports

Just another democrat that thinks government knows better than the parents. I've got one in public school now that's an honor roll student (just like the other 50% of his classmates) and I'd put the average home schooled graduate up against the average public school graduate in any measure of success you choose. If you think public education is turning out well adjusted graduates there isn't any help for the level of stupidity you're operating on.

We chose homeschool during the Covid fiasco. Which was better than going to public for a full day on Tuesday and a half day on Thursday. Both my kids are now in college and doing very well. So yeah I respect most everyone’s opinion but goat killers statement was what I taught my children to avoid. Because ignorance does not deserve an educated response

If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

Great topic.... unfortunately it appears there are ZERO counter arguments other than calling me names. I honestly didn't know most of y'all kids were at WalMart in the middle of the day in a Wolf T-shirt.
Wealth of knowledge to be garnered from this Aldeer site right here.... Not surprised though. The extreme butthurt was expected. I know most of y'all love a Wolf T.
Even called me a Democrat... That guy has probably got a Wolf T with a moon on it.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
