I like the delta point pro because its big. I have it on a G41 and I can hit a 6" plate at 40 yards. Even on a Texas star. I also like the trijicon RMR as well. It stays on/shake awake. The aperture isn't as big as the DPP, but it's close. I have it on a G17 and it's accurate at the same distance. Both have tritium sights with light/laser. Both very effective.
The holson is my next favorite. For the price and reticle it's a pretty nice setup. Slightly smaller aperture. But it's a very nice red dot for the money. The buttons are a little tricky but whatever.
The vortex venom is my least favorite (of the red dots I own) but still better than irons.

Something else to consider is the added weight on the slide. This can put alot of stress on the red dot.
The added wait causes more momentum on the recoil spring. That's why folks usually get lightning holes in the slide.
One thing that's gonna help accuracy at a distance is gonna be frame size. In the situation you described the G40 would be more accurate than the G20

In lowlight situations, that red dot will be useless unless your target is at point blank range. I have a Ruger 5.7 w/ Vortex Venom setup for after hours critter control and it took adding a weapon mounted light to get the consistency and accuracy I wanted. Not sure how green jeans would view such a setup though. Might be bad juju How accurate is that 5.7 out past 50 yards or so?.......I dont guess I've ever checked those out. It looks like a little rifle round its shooting. Seems like that would have better accuracy. You ever shot a deer with it?

I couldn't hit shite with my Glock 20 because of the horrible trigger. Went to an XDM Elite and haven't looked back. A shake awake red dot on top would be great I think just because you wouldn't have to fumble around in the dark for a power button in a hurried situation. I have a Hex Dragonfly on mine but it doesnt have the shake awake feature. Otherwise works well on it.

It has it's place but I wouldn't use it for anything other than headshots for finishing a deer on the ground.

Checkout Swampfox. I put a Justice II green dot on my new turkey gun and I really like it. So much I bought another one to put on my home defense shotgun. It's got a bigger window than most, so it would be a good option for your use case.

There is a 4 in SW for sale in the classified right now CNC!! Thanks......I think I'm gonna get one with a longer barrel though Longer barrel = longer sight plane for shooting open sights, not relevant when using a reflex sight. Longer barrel = more velocity. However my Glock 20 has a 4.6” barrel and the Glock 40 has a 6” barrel. The 1.4” of extra barrel length gives the Glock 40 a meager 84 fps of additional velocity (According to Alaskan Ballistics). I decided on the Glock 20 with the 4.6” barrel for easier carrying, lighter weight AND am I really going to ever be in a situation where I absolutely need an additional 84 fps of muzzle velocity?

is the slide already milled? I havent bought it yet......Looking at the S&W Performance 2.0 Have you researched that one? Reason I ask is when I was looking last year, there was alot of issue with the SW 2.0 10mm's, I think with feeding issues. That was the one I wanted, the 4 inch one to be exact, but to many people said they had issues and had sent guns back to SW and still were having issues. I watched alot of Youtubes, that guy Chuke up in Alaska does alot of 10mm pistol testing. He was a G20 fan boy, but seems to have moved over to the XDM now. That is what I got, mainly because it feeds the Buffalo Bore 220 grain hardcast load without issue. I got the gear up thing from PSA on mine, pistol, 6 mags and a bag for $529. Came with a voucher to get the optic mounting plate, which I got in about 2 weeks even though they said to expect 6 to 8. I would be shocked if you shot mine if you didn't like it. Great trigger, accurate, and the mags are easy to load to capacity. My shield 2.0 plus, you can't get more than 11 rounds in the 13 round mag without an uplula. Chuke goes back to Glock every other month. He was on the FN bandwagon lately but I think he’s back to his Glock 20 now. In the next few weeks he will have a new video out and who knows what the current flavor will be. Like most YouTubers he’s looking to attract views.

Would the longer barrel not be easier to shoot more accurately at distances out to 50+ yards???

You could run a longer barrel in the G20 too!
Of course, several aftermarket options available. FYI I just ordered an XDM Elite package from Palmetto State Armory, can’t beat that deal.
