I am self employed and my income for 2023 is the same as 2022 and my deductions have not changed. My taxes I owe for 23 is approx $4000 more than 22. CPA said that some of it has to do with the tax decrease that Trump put in place that Biden dropped. So much for Biden Bidenomics

Business mileage rate went from 58.5 cents to 65.5 cents per mile in 1 year; even the IRS does not believe Biden's inflation B.S.

I usually get ~$500 back, and this year I owe $2000. I will look to see the actual dif once I decide to pay it.

I will be getting a federal tax refund this year for the first time in over a decade. My wife and I were both in disbelief, we asked our accountant what caused it and he said it was a few small items that added up, he would need to dig into it after tax season to give me a more detailed answer.

I say all of that to say that our tax system is junk and makes no sense. We almost always get back a decent amount on state but have always owed several grand to the feds, which also makes no sense to me, why would they not be the same?

I always owe the state substantially more than the IRS. Same this year.

Just got mine done, I owe about what I did last year. They did tell me to raise my withholding to avoid the 7% underpayment penalty that starts this year. (Insert Fred comment here)

If you are self-employed and have a good CPA, you should be able to easily get that $4000 owed reduce down.
You don't want to have a lot of years a big returns and losses, but as long as you're showing a profit, unless you owe to them the better.

I decreased my dependent number by 1 and got less back this year over last. No real change in income. I just do standard deduction.

That simply cannot be true. Joe himself, publicly stated that anyone making under $400K in taxable income would not pay a penny more. You need to call the Whitehouse and ask to speak to him about it.

That cant be correct either. That shows inflation on everything personal travel related being 11.96%. Joe and his minions are claiming it's right at 3%. Tell me it aint so, Joe.
