Just trying to pass on info, because I know others are in my position. Truck worn out and needed a new one. Transmission was shot, strange shifting and making loud noises; it was ready to go at any time.
My truck: 2015, 227k miles, needed transmission ($8k - no shucks), and another ~$1-2k (belt, new plugs, tune up, radiator flush, etc - never done any of this)
New Truck: 2023 F150 XLT 4x4 (3.5 6cyl) (demo with 500 miles) MSRP - $63k They gave me $6500 for my truck & it needed ~$9k work for me to continue driving it (So $15k-ish) Internet stated $10.1k off. It was that or the 1.9% for 72 mos financing dead. I did get ~$8.8k off.
(You also have to include fees, tags transfer and sales tax to add on the total out the door)
I put nothing down, and have a $745 payment (72 months) = $53640 total payment (About $2600 in interest payments) Based on my last truck the truck will cost me ~$0.24 per mile (excluding tires, gas, oil, etc)
Right now if you put $40,000 in a saving acct @5% it would be worth 53,603 in 6 years. So you are better off keeping your $ in a savings account than putting a bunch of $ down.

I hate to say it, but I won’t ever own a new vehicle… You need to do your $/mile analysis on a use vs new truck. That is what matters.

I guess I could go pay cash and buy a whole bunch of new trucks if I wanted to. The funny thing is I'm able to do that because of not buying new trucks.

Buy what you want when you want. Folks around here won’t ever approve of anything. All their vehicles are apparently 2000 models with 350,000 miles and they like tinkering and fixing stuff constantly. I got tired of my truck and having to constantly fix something, so I sold it and bought another one. I personally like being in a newer vehicle that I have faith is gonna make it where I’m headed. Enjoy your new truck.

Congratulations. Mine is only 25 years old and has 346000 miles. Just getting broke in. No way I can make that payment. Guy came to look and a job at the station couple months ago. Had a nice Chevy. Said it was a 24. When I ask about payment he said only $998 a month. Bet insurance is 250

I hate to say it, but I won’t ever own a new vehicle… The only way it makes sense is to buy it new and drive it until it dies…hopefully 300k+ miles. You control the maintenace on it. Still, I would rather buy one with 85k miles with someone else paying the depreciation and then riding it out! Congrats, on the new truck!

If the man wants to buy a truck let him buy a truck. It’s not your money he’s spending. And why knock him for breaking down the money and payments in case someone else is wanting to buy one. Folks been buying new trucks my whole life and will after I’m dead. How y’all think we can buy used ones???
Firstly I don’t care if he does or doesn’t buy a new truck, he threw out some numbers and it doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe I am looking at it wrong, that is why I said help me understand your numbers you posted so everything else will be in the know

All I’ll say is it’s important to have a reliable vehicle.
