Was asking a New Zealand hunting on a reddit forum. He said that for several "invasive" species in New Zealand there is no hunting license or tag requirement even for non-residents.
If you know better please correct me. I don't know anything about it, just found it interesting and thought someone on here may find that interesting.
That could be a cool trip...... for a young healthy hiker hunter. Guy said the terrain is pretty tough.
I believe you will need a firearm visitors license and a permit to hunt on public land. Last I heard there was a 12-18 month wait for getting the firearm license. You don't need the license if you hunt under direct supervision of a New Zealand gun license owner.

I worked with a guy a few years ago who was born and raised in NZ. He used to tell me all kinds of stories about hunting there. Said he spent many nights shooting stags out of a boat with a spotlight.
I had to cancel a Red Stagg trip there about 10 yes ago due to some staffing issues that came up at work. Always thought I would reschedule but, I don’t think I have the stamina now.
Everything was pretty liberal at the time. If you could get yourself and a weapon there, it was a free for all.
From what I heard, you’re better off to use a guide and use one of their guns. It is very tricky over there even if you have one of their gun licenses. It isn’t a very accommodating country for visiting hunters right now.
