Bait, trespassing, starting season early/hunting out of season, drones, electronic calling, over the limit, and shooting them with a rifle, are all cheating in my book. Shooting one off the roost is just not a sporting way of killing one. What if you were calling to him on the roost and he flew to a tree within 20 yards from you? From tree to tree, never touched the ground? I mean, you called him in, you tricked him… thoughts?

Anybody can call one up and kill it. But putting him to bed the going in an hour before daylight within range of the tree and rolling off the limb at first gobble ain't easy. Last few I killed when I actually hunted died that way. Try it

Some of you guys have obviously never dealt with an educated 4-5 year old field bird before... and it shows. That’s what the ole 223 is for. 😉
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

From tree to tree, never touched the ground? I mean, you called him in, you tricked him… thoughts? I'm referring more to the situation where someone knows where a bird is roosted, slips in, in the dark, waits for it to start cracking daylight and pops him off the roost just before daylight in a 100% ambush. If it is legal shooting light and I'm calling and a bird comes up in gun range, whether he's walking or flying to get to me, and he's not a jake, he's getting shot. I've killed a bunch that I've been calling and working on the roost that have pitched off the roost and hit the ground in range, and took a load of #5s before they could even take a step. Same difference.

LOL Actually, old field birds are exactly why I didnt list reaping, decoys, crawling, or ambushing one from a dug pit blind, as cheating.

Season's been open for almost a full month for some. Killing "one"........aint even beginning to scratch the itch for those that do start early. This is Alabama baby, the patron state of outlawing. Where fracturing the occasional game law is taught in pre-school, and passed down from generation to generation.

Those limb hoppers will bring you to your knees. Killed a few heavily pressured birds and one in particular had been shot the previous day. I had to shoot a wedding and called my buddy to see how things went. He said he missed one that evening and it flew toward the corner of the property. So I went early the next morning in that direction it was full green up so that helped. He gobbled once and I went that way. I did a few soft yelps and clucks nada. He flew to with 40 yards to a limb going over the creek. I sat there watching him strutting on the limb but wouldn’t budge. Finally around 8 he pitched down and i shot him. His rump was full of #6 copper coated lead shot. Jerry had took a shot as he ran away
