New EPA rules will mandate a majority of EV or hybrid vehicles sold by 2032.
From the NY Times:
The Biden administration on Wednesday issued one of the most significant climate regulations in the nation’s history, a rule designed to ensure that the majority of new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the United States are all-electric or hybrids by 2032.
Nearly three years in the making, the new tailpipe pollution limits from the Environmental Protection Agency would transform the American automobile market. A record 1.2 million electric vehicles rolled off dealers’ lots last year, but they made up just 7.6 percent of total U.S. car sales, far from the 56 percent target under the new regulation. An additional 16 percent of new cars sold would be hybrids.
From the Washington Post:
The Environmental Protection Agency rule — President Biden’s most far-reaching climate regulation yet — would require automakers to ramp up sales of electric vehicles while slashing carbon emissions from gasoline-powered models, which account for about one-fifth of America’s contribution to global warming.
But unlike last year’s proposed rule, automakers would not need to dramatically boost electric vehicle (EV) sales until after 2030. The delayed timeline reflects an election-year concession to labor unions, a key Democratic constituency that has raised concerns about a rapid shift to EVs.
In another change from the proposal, automakers could comply by boosting sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles in addition to all-electric vehicles. Plug-in hybrids have recently proved more popular with U.S. consumers, in part because of concerns about a lack of public charging infrastructure.

That is just one of many policies that Trump or (any rational minded human being) any President can toss in the scrap bin on day 1 of taking office. If I were an auto maker I would tell the company board we are not going to not do a damn thing until at least three years after the election just to see how things shake out. Also, if a company does not comply, because they are behind schedule meeting unreasonable demands, then just what the phuck is the EPA going to do about it?

If Trump gets back into office he needs to put drastic restrictions on all EV. Similar to what the current administrtion has done towards the oil and gas industry. For those that dont know the EV industry is really dirty. The process and chemicals used to make the batteries are much worse that fossil fuels. They should be required to build the batteries without any damaging affects. (This cannot be done and would kill the industry). Trump should also require all ICE engines to have a minimum of 500hp.
I love my country, but don't trust my government.

If he gets in I hope he chucks the ENTIRE EPA in the scrap bin along with several FBI/CIA/NSA/Dept Education and other losers in as well!! He will need a big bin or maybe just drop off in Haiti.

Never have enough power service infrastructure n place to support this fantasy plan Actually, it’s likely being pushed by the power cooperatives to sell more electricity. Those recharging stations take a lot of juice to operate.

I was down in Auburn a few weeks back and stopped by the Winn Dixie. Can’t remember the name of the road. Anyway, I sat in the car while the wife went inside. There was a HUGE Tesla charging station in the parking lot. Probably 16-20 spots. Theee were a few cars there charging when I pulled in. The owners were sitting in their cars reading/looking at their phones, waiting for their charge to complete. They were there when we got there and still there when we left. I have no idea how long it takes for them to fully charge but it’s a whole lot longer than it takes for a gas pump.
As for Biden, when he changes Air Force 1 to all electric, as well as the presidential limousine, and all of the other politicians do the same with their travel, I MIGHT think about looking at hybrid/electric.

Till they get electric "service stations ," where you stop in and they pull your low battery and they swap it for a hot one it's just not gonna work.
