I don't need to be taking my ADD son to see a psychiatrist for meds, I need to be seeing the psychiatrist for meds for having to deal with him!!

Appt this am, drop by the school after, and guess what he doesn't have? His books and stuff. So I drop him off at home, he drives my truck. On the way to CTEK in columbiana, a person hauling a dump trailer managed to lose some of his cargo, and now I have a "metal object" in one of the tires...

Did he stop the guy? No.

Went to get passports for the Alaska cruise last week, guess who didn't bring an ID?

Look at grades, 7 zero's in one class, and this 9 weeks just started...... He says he is working with the teacher for some reason they won't load on his chromebook..

He has no sense of urgency. He has not a care in the world. Everything is just marvelous. Meanwhile dad is comtemplating an adequate legal defense for choking him out.......................

Tell me again why I thought having children was a good idea?

Praying for your patience and Perseverance.

Real life is gonna be rough on him especially once you stop bailing him out.

sounds like he likes to learn everything the hard way.

I went through a tough time with one of my kids. Very tough. So I get it. It will pass. He will learn. I was the same way. Couldn’t tell me nothing and I had it all figured out. Until I didn’t and the world knocked me on my butt. He will survive.

Yeah, the cruise would be off the table and if he is old enough to drive then he would be working a summer and after school job. Also be looking at the military to gain some maturity and direction because college in the future if things don't improve would be a waste. Hopefully this is something he will get past.

How old is this kid? I’ve heard of someone making a D, but seven 0’s a new record.

Sounds just like my son. Did the absolute minimum to Graduate. Wouldn't get a job even though he was in Co-op so he failed that class. He hasn't had a steady job in over a year. I totally gave up and haven't done anything for him. I don't give him a dime, no gas money and if he's not there at dinner time I don't cook anything for him either. Changed the WiFi password.

Worst part is he doesn't even care. Hasn't taught him anything besides we are terrible parents. I told him if he don't like it he can move out or pay me rent

That’s what I was getting at. You can probably get a D just by showing up.

All hope is not lost. My son was ADD before it was a thing, he's 53 now. He was a terrible student. Ran across some of his old report cards the other day. Barely passing grades, he did make an A in shops. Included with the cards were results of his standardized aptitude tests they gave each year. His results were thru the roof and even better in math and science. He dropped out his junior year, got his GED and went to work.
Long story short, he owns his own successful hvac business, has been married to his 1st and only wife for over 30 years. They've raised 3 children that have never been in a day of trouble, 2 have already graduated from college and the youngest is over half way to a chemistry/forensic science degree. He has managed to accomplish this without them piling up a bunch of student debt.
So, you never know how things will turn out in the end. Pray for strength but don't give up hope.
I always felt like if he ever found his spot he would do ok. He's intelligent, street smart and very mechanically inclined. Fortunately, he found his way before he got into something he couldn't get out of. He has a great work ethic and finding the right woman helped steer him.
I'm very proud of him and he is one of my very best friends.
Hang in there, have hope and pray for him and yourself. You can try to guide but you can't live their life for them. Good luck!

My oldest boy is similar. He was 2 months early preemie and diagnosed dyslexic in 8th grade. He did well in school (except in spelling) until it crashed in 5th grade. Early on before diagnosis I ruined him with school and made him hate it and me. He still hates school, and somehow stays in the C or B range for grades, with the occasional 'woops' D. He doesn't care one thing about grades, getting all of the assignments, or even keeping up with current events or happenings at school. He has a mind, and has surprised me lots of times with putting things together and with normal problem solving. I've lectured him and whooped him plenty in the younger grades, but it just doesn't/didn't stick. His brain is just wired differently. One more year of school left and he's finished.

Youngest boy is just the opposite.

"Tell me again why I thought having children was a good idea?"

Sometimes it is an unfortunate but necessary step to get grandkids. Sometimes.

Drop him off at the first recruiter's office that'll take him. Sometimes that's literally the best option. And sometimes that's the best love they need.
