North Alabama, near Piedmont, has seen snow in May. It's been over 60 years, but it happened.
In that part of the world, ginning the first bale of cotton was a huge deal. One year, my granddad's brother Stuart decided that he was going to win. On May 5, he had cotton plants about an inch tall. It snowed 3 inches that night and killed the entire field.
Funny thing is, his brother Charles, who was always my favorite of my great-uncles, won the contest that year. He bought seed, saw the weather forecast, and waited to plant until the ground dried the day after the snow!

I remember my grandpaw talking about that snow in New Market Alabama. Weve had several late snows like that I want to say. One or two big ones back in the day.

I can guarantee when the last North Alabama Frost will be. Its always one week after I decide to plant young tomatoes, squash, and pepper plants. 100% and that is usually the 1st-2nd week of April. My dumb self does it every year then fusses about it.
Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!

I thought it was back in 2012 that it got down to about 20 in april, but i can't find it. I remember we had corn in madison/l'stone county up about thigh high that died.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.
