None of the above!!! I’d find an original Rem 870 in excellent shape and never look back!!

What they said...I have one. I really like it, and I don't say that about many guns

Somebody just had another deal on a beretta, I deleted it. Maybe palmetto, maybe prepper gun shop. It was 799 or 899

1. Beretta A300 Ultima 2. SX4 Winchester
These 2 rule the sub $1k shotgun market and deservedly so

IF I wanted best bang for the $, AND I didn’t want to have to worry about POA VS POI and barrel/choke spec and thread issues, I’d find a used Browning Gold or Winchester SX2/3……sure, they don’t have all the trendy new fishnipple features and gay stock lines, but they’re the design the rest came from, and (the best part) they aren’t spaghetti guns with Turkish parts and machining mysteries to unlock. Seriously, if you want a spaghetti gun, look for older/used Beretra/Franchi/Benelli stuff…..the newer stuff can come with baggage those older 390s, 612s, and SBE1s don’t have. If you want bulletproof, more reliable than anything else, period? Find an older Auto 5 Mag 12 and deal with screw in choke and synthetic conversions later, if needed. Tons of folks won’t enjoy hearing that, but over 40 years of shooting all sorts of shotguns from saltwater marsh mud, to rice stubble dust, to blizzards in Canada, the original Auto 5 has saved a LOT of hunts from newer guns. You want more ‘sacrilege’? If you’re looking at pumps, the Winchester 1300 has quite a few things going for it over an 870. Not saying it’s better in all ways, but it’s definitely underrated and is (in my mind) a better compromise if you can’t have a semi-auto than many 870s….ESPECIALLY for young shooters. It’s even better if you can find a true youth model….the forend reach is shortened. Couple that with them releasing the bolt/pump automatically on firing, they’re FAST. I also think a BPS is a gem for a pump.

I also think a BPS is a gem for a pump. Cant disagree with anything. However, I said the A300 because I dont like the SX4 safety for kids. It is too easy to hit IMO. The SX3 does not have this issue. I bought one used (dont think it was ever shot) for my son. Great gun. But I bought my other son an A300 and it is a fine gun too. It was used but only had a couple boxes of shells through it. The browning golds are awesome and I have one I biught in 1997. But, I'll add that it is a good idea to steer clear of the 3.5 inch ones because they havr know issues. I like the BPS guns but would not buy ine for a kid because they are too hard to tell if they are loaded because of the bottom ejection. If the kid has good attention to detail then go for it, but they are a little more difficult to cycle all the shells through to load and unload.
