I have 2 good friends that deal with insurance daily as part of their jobs, one owns a body shop and the other works for a contractor doing restoration type work. Both will tell you Allstate is one of the worst in terms of taking care of their customers and being easy to work with.
They’ll also tell you that State Farm is entirely dependent on the individual agent. Alfa and USAA (if you qualify) get glowing reviews from them both.
State Farm is hit or miss but if you work the claim through your agent and get a different adjuster it can make a difference. I remember one old woman in a neighborhood that was hit by a tornado. A house less than 100 yards away was destroyed and SF sent a claims adjuster to her house and tried to deny a claim. She told him to get his ass on a boat back to Cuba and got a different adjuster out their that paid the claim. Allstate is just garbage. Their agents are worthless and are only there to get you to sign the policy. They sell insurance with their enormous advertising budget, not by taking care of their policy holders.

Burbank, I failed to make it clear in my post ... Not sure if you know anything about a tornado that went right across 280 in Birmingham around Eagles Point and Highland Lakes about 2.5 years ago ... thats why the Atlas guy was at my neighbors house... we had damage as well... But insurance claimed that it was just an old roof and needed replacing ... The roof had broken shingles and you could see that they had lifted. Insurance didn't want to do anything and this roofer new that they were wrong. YOU must be in the insurance business?

I thought you were saying the roof was just old. I don’t work in the homeowners/personal auto space. I used to years ago.

Needed a new roof .... I saw a company putting a roof on just down the road "Atlas" roofing ... told the guy I need to know what it was going to cost to get it replaced. He said, I can get this taken care of for you as hail damage. (Roof was old) He asked for my insurance information and said he would be in touch after he went up and took a look. Insurance company sent someone out, they denied it. He protested the denial. Insurance company sent a second person out, denied. He hired an independent inspector to come out and write a report. Next thing I knew there was a check for $37,000 in the mailbox. All I paid out of pocket was the deductible. I have looked all through my wallet hoping I could give you the guys name. It was the most seamless well executed process I have ever been involved with. Guys showed up and knocked it out of the park, cleaned up and were gone. ATLAS ROOFING .. I was living in Highland Lakes at the time in Birmingham. (This was about 2 years ago) . And this my friends is why insurance companies act the way they do. The poster admits this was just an old roof, yet shady contractors figure out a way to dupe the carrier. Good for you ol skinny…but this is why everyone’s rates are going sky high. Insurance is not a pay as you go roofing replacement plan. This is why I only write Commercial Lines and Health.

We had two hail events over the summer, been in a drought the whole year, we just got 3 really good rains and the roof leaked really bad so I called out a roofer and he said it was hail damage and water damage to file a claim, I didn't really hit it off with the guy, too many missed calls and times he was going to show up. So I call another company and guy said hail and water damage, file the claim with Allstate, they called today and denied all claims.. We have been with this guy over 30 years and only filed maybe 3 small claims. They said the water damage was over several years and I said yes it was and I had the roof repaired every time but never filed a water damage claim. Allstate will never get another penny from me! State Farm did that same thing to me. I'd been with the same agent (Father/Son) for 39 years. The told me I had hail damage on the gutters and metal penetrations, but none on the shingles. All my neighbors have had theirs replaced. Mine was denied and it was a complete shucks show from the start. Ultimately, I cancelled them and went with Alfa. Everyone I've talked to, and I speak with a ton of roofers, says Alfa is the way to go. Avoid State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, Progressive. I don't think State Farm understood how much a single person could harm or help them. We perform over 1000 inspections a year now. That's 1000 buyers who are advised against State Farm. Plus 1000 Realtors that are advised against as well. I'll do everything in my power to discourage everyone I can from doing business with them. Unitl I die. LOL, now that is payback right there.
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

State Farm lost most of Mississippi after how they handled the aftermath of Katrina. Not sure they'll rebound, until the next generation...way too many hard feelings, deservedly so!.
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

They get rebuilt over and over and the people living in normal areas pay for it.
