Tohatsu seems to be the go to outboard in this area!! I see and know a few people that have older models. I’m going to purchase a 40hp outboard in the next week and was looking for any input on these motors if anyone has any!! I had the old 2 stoke tohatsu and been have a Nissan 4 stoke and they are great motors so I’m hoping the tohatsu would be a good one also. They have the best price locally.

The older tohatsu 25 horses is what most of the Arkansas public land guys run. Supposedly you can soup em up to push a 16’ John boat 50 mph in the timber. Sounds fun!
I hear they are great motors. I have no experience with them unfortunately I’ve heard and seen similar. If I was buying a new motor I’d look hard at tohatsu.

Tohatsu have been some of the best outboards made for about 30 years running. All the way back into the 90's. Things are legendary for those that actually know more about boat motors than what they see on the back of a boat sitting at a dealership.
I had a 3cylinder 40hp Nissan/Tohatsu that I think was the best motor ever made. Hands down. Tiller steer ran it on a jack plate and it would get skinny. Bulletproof motor.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Thanks!!! I kinda figured history would hold true!! Always had tohatsu/ Nissan outboards except for the one time I bought the 3cyl Suzuki 25hp. That thing would fly but it always seemed to have small issues. I’m calling Monday for the dealer to assemble the tiller handle and get it ready so when I get off work Wednesday I can go pick it up and start the break in process. I’m pretty sure it should push my 15/48 flat at a pretty good pace.this will be the first brand new outboard I buy since 2004. Hopefully I’ll get years of good service out of it it’s able to haul big loads of fish and shrimp!!!
