Yea if they come with serious enforcement and real penalties for violations, strong enough to make it a real deterrent.

Physical tags won't stop people from shooting whatever they want so I see no point in them until they can get people to stop shooting every thing that walks by. Enforcement of current regs would be the best way to start.

Why bother? It, like everything on the books now, is not going to be enforced. Penalties and fines are and would be a joke and the state is going to do what they want to do, and whatever they feel will put the most money in the coffers. Even if they had excellent herd data (which they dont), whatever the data said, would have to be weighed out against the $$$'s and we all know which way the final decision would fall. Health of the resource versus $$. The $$ always win and the resource always suffers.

Technically this isnt a new rule but an enforcement measure for a rule we already have on the books. Right now there’s virtually no enforcement of the three buck limit and its pretty much the honor system……Its like if we just told people not to road hunt but never did anything to stop it and hollered foul if someone suggested putting out decoys. One of the main things people say they want to see is for more game wardens to be hired to enforce the regs we have on the books…..Is the three buck limit not one of things you’re wanting to see the GW’s enforce?.....Why not take measures to help them out unless you just don’t want someone to make it harder on you to cheat the system??

Physical tags like what Texas or Kansas or other states have are made of Tyvek (or some non-tearable, durable, lasting material) and cost $$$.

That would necessitate an increase in license fees. A majority of hunters would lose their chit about that, even if they want tags.

The penalties don't hurt enough and wouldn't hurt enough even if a visible tag on the deer was required during any transport from the recovery site. Until the penalties hurt and hunters think "Damn, if I don't put this tag on and get caught they will hammer me" then it won't matter.

It's been a while since I've hunted there but in Ohio they allow you to make your own tag and affix it to the deer. It can be anything as long as it has the required info -- I think your license number and maybe date-time-county. I wrote mine on a piece of paper, stuck it in a Ziplock bag and zip-tied it to the antler. Done. Met the requirements. Didn't have to worry about it falling off or being lost or "the rain got it" or anything else.

That would be the most simple thing in regard to a physical tag.

I'm not overly impressed with anything the state is doing or has done with regard to wildlife. Having a lifetime license, it would just create more work on me, because after moving a couple times, I'm sure that the state would not be able to find me or mail me my tags. I'd end up having to drive somewhere and spend hours getting my tags just to be able to hunt under the license I purchased 30 yrs ago that was supposed to cover all hunting in Alabama. If they were mailed, the Montgomery, Mobile, and B'ham USPS crime ring that has been allowed to operate unchecked for the past several years, would recognize the envelopes and the opportunity and steal them all and be selling them on ebay to the highest bidder. Until they start actually doing something for the good of the state's wildlife and hunters and fisherman and cut way back on making revenue generation their number one goal and all the BS new permits they are so quick to require, I'm not for them having the authority to do anything else, that would require me doing anything more than I already am.

Yep, changes nothing. Technically today you need a game check number when you kill a buck so tell ‘em to just ask for that. No need to have a physical tag. Can’t produce game check number = illegal kill = ticket. No more rules.

This is about like gun control. More laws, more laws, more laws and zero enforcement of the current laws that already make it illegal to do what the new laws say. But at least the DCNR can say “We’re doing something!” while not accomplishing a damn thing

No.

Game Check is a big enough PITA without having some stupid tagging system in place.

How can you be for outlawing cell cameras but not FOR enforcing bag limits?
