I was gonna attempt to offer some advice for telling your autistic child, but it's really age specific. Assuming that child is old enough to tell, honesty and calmness is key for most on the spectrum. Usually them kids are pretty resilient in this type situation. Wish I could help more, try to stay strong brother.

I want to thank all of you for the prayers and kind words, the last 24 hrs have been miserable to say the least. Her Dr called after I left for work to let her know that she was sorry for “not being clear” but that she does NOT have Vascular Dementia. I am so thankful for this but how do you give a person a death sentence with only months to live to oops my bad? Thank God though that it was an incorrect diagnosis and that we had not discussed this with our youngest daughter. Once again thank you all.

I am so thankful for this but how do you give a person a death sentence with only months to live to oops my bad? Thank God though that it was an incorrect diagnosis and that we had not discussed this with our youngest daughter. Once again thank you all. SBO - that had to be an agonizing 24 hrs, but I'm thankful the correct diagnosis was delivered sooner rather than later. Pls check your PMs. If by chance anyone else is going thru a similar struggle, there is a group holding an upcoming event at my church to provide families with information and support on everything related to dementia. Lunch and Learn for Dementia Care Join us for a Lunch and Learn, led by Dr. Natali Edmonds PsyD ABPP, Board Certified Geropsychologist and Founder of Careblazers. Careblazers is a place for families to get information and support on everything related to Dementia. Dr. Edmonds will give us practical strategies for immediate impact as we navigate the real world of Dementia Care. This event is sponsored by Founders Place and homeRN, in collaboration with Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church and VHMC. This event is appropriate for both family and paid caregivers, CEUs available. The event is Tuesday, March 19, from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm in Tyson Hall. The cost is $20. Register at the link.
https://saint-lukes.com/ministries/founders-place/The luncheon will take place at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church just south of B'ham.
