Anyone use an aerator in your pond? What type do you recommend? Will it make fish taste better? Benefits worth cost?

Not the best in the world but when the pond was low last summer, I rigged up a sump pump. I have a short pier and I put in in a milk crate and hung it off. I used a 1" pvc with a 45* on the end for discharge pipe. It did not areate the whole pond but it shot out a good stream and I did not loose any fish. I had to use my generator to power it.
