Saw a solo hen with a lone gobbler on 20 Jan 2024. He gobbled a half a dozen times and the hen was yelping and clucking. He blew up in full strut a few times before they wondered off down into the woods.

NOW is the time for all GOOD men to come to the aid of their country.

They’re like deer….and us. Always ready for a piece. However, the ladies dictate when we get it!!

Last Thursday it was 41 degrees and foggy and the turkeys were blowing the tops out of the trees gobbling. They quit when they flew down but they were lighting it up in the tree.

Last year it started slow, South of Montgomery and I thought they were nearly done at the beginning of the 2023 season. LATE April killed 2.

They weren't done.

Turkeys do Turkey Things. They aren't breeding just because you hear one gobble.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I noticed the same thing on my place. I had a few putting on a show the last weekend of deer season. I don’t hunt mine but may give it a try this year if I can get away from the bass bite happening at the same time.

If the bass fishing is good and those birds need put in their place, I’ll volunteer - no biggie - just let me know…. grin

I miss Jerry calling and telling about seeing several strutting with hens right at the end of deer season. That went back to the mid 90s that up until his passing a few years ago. Those were sone good times at his place.

I just saw 16 hens and 5 big boys strutting like crazy. Just putting on a show.

If I had a list, it would be long. I’ve just never had that fire to chase then because I get the same kick from bass fishing. I’ve committed to it this year though. It’ll be my first when I close the deal.

They were strutting at the end of the season. When the temps get in the 70’s it kicks them off. I’ve got about a month in me, when it’s 80 and muggy at first light I throw in the towel. Without a doubt, my favorite was the first ten days of the old 15th season.
