Guys, my mother, 84 yo, recently fell and broke her left hip. I've been trying to convince her to let us install a handicap ramp. While asking about this, someone mentioned that the StatDOT will help with this. I had not heard of this program. I was told they would send someone out to measure the porch, they would do a drawing, and would develop a BOM. They would then send the material list to a local supply house and, in some cases, even pay for the materials. We would then pick the materials up and handle it from there. Have y'all ever heard of such a program? I know there are civic organizations and churches that do this, but am not aware of a government program. Thought I'd ask here.

Unless you have to build a ramp for a flight or two of stairs it sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through. Id rather just build the ramp myself and get it done (and have).

Yes, We had a ministry that provided the labor. Materials/drawings were at the house when we arrived. Sorry, I know nothing beyond that.

We went through this with a friends family and low and behold. Amazon sells hundreds of different kinds of wheelchair ramps in just about every configuration you think of in a very wide range of prices from under $50 to as much as you want to spend. If the price point is right for what you need that may be the faster better option. 2-day shipping.

There is a church in Chelsea, called MorningStar Methodist, that has a group of men that builds wheelchair ramps for people. I have built a few through work, but honestly, the codes and restrictions are so complex is not worth the headache from a business standpoint.

How big of a ramp do you need? I have one made out of aluminum that is about 8 or 10 foot long.

I new a guy that was a veteran and the government built him one according to him. But I understood it to be more of a veterans benefit. I believe his was aluminum.

Turkey. there is that state organization that will come out to your house and measure everything, then they will contract the building of ramp out to a non profit or a church that does this as a ministry. They will create blue prints and have the material delivered to your home. It cost you nothing.
The only problem is it make take several months to complete the process.

I've always wondered why there isn't somebody that makes a lift that would rent/lease/sell an electric lift. Even if it was solar powered battery operated so no need to plug in. Seems like a niche somebody could fill.
