37 days without a beer, but who's counting? Seriously, I usually knock them back Fri-Sun so it's been an adjustment for me trying to figure out what to do with my hands. I have had a couple bourbon drinks over that time period, but not many. I've lost 14lbs and been sleeping like a baby. Nothing earth shattering that caused me to quit or cut back, but I drank a lot more than usual this Thanksgiving through New Years and felt like sh!t. It's amazing how much more I enjoyed getting up early and hunting in the morning without a hangover.

Name something that good that comes from drinking alcohol.
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

I have not had a drink in a week. But that is what the flu coupled with a broken rib will do. I felt better when I was drinking. Broken ribs are brutal. Hurts to breathe sneezing and coughing is terrible

I swear something is dif about beer now. I don't know if it's something they spray it with, new varieties of hops or what but It just doesn't like my gut anymore. I used to love Porters and Stouts but now a lot of brewers back sweeten them with lactose sugars to give them a more malty flavor. Yeast won't consume lactose sugars. I'm not exactly lactose intolerant, but the lactose that they put in some dark beers doesn't sit well with me.

Name something that good that comes from drinking alcohol. Well... 1. Mrs. Irish and I love to have a couple and cook together that whole process keeps us having fun together. We are still like best friends, plus like Bama Earl said it makes the bedroom less inhibited and more fun even at our age. 2. We like to have dinner parties with friends. A little alcohol loosens everyone up and we all end up having fun, laughing along with each other and bonding as friends. We are bless with some of the best friends a guy and gal could want. 3. I have very close group of guy friends and at least once a week we all sit around someone's fire pit or back deck in the summer enjoying the fire, some adult beverages, a cigar, sharing stories, jokes and conversation. Those guys are like my brothers. Can drinking be bad? Sure it can. Can smoking pot be bad? Sure it can. Can sex be bad? Sure it can. It's like a lot of things... Moderation is good, excessive consumption is bad. In the Bible Noah was such a righteous man that God picked him to build the Ark, and save a small portion of humanity to repopulate the whole planet. The first thing that Noah did when the water receded and the boat grounded was he planted a vineyard so he could make wine. Most European monasteries were known for wine and beer making. In a 1779 letter to the Abbé Morellet, Benjamin Franklin mentions wine and writes, “Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards; there it enters the roots of the vines, to be changed into wine; a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy.”

I’m getting to be the same. It hasn’t been a conscious act, but I just don’t drink as much nor as often as I used to. May’ve been Covid lockdown and just got burned out on drinking…was going through a LOT of scotch during that time. Fifth every couple of days for a few weeks.
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

This is unsolicited, but for those looking for a good N/A beer that's not hoppy, Guinness 0.0 hits the nail on the head as a non-alcoholic version of Guinness. And from the ingredients list, it does not have lactose, if that's an issue for you. Little harder to find, but Athletic Brewing makes some exceptional N/A beers. Really good IPA.

I stopped 11 years ago after years of moderate to heavy drinking. Looking back I was a slave to it even though I wasn't an alcoholic. I planned my weekends around drinking. I planned my grocery shopping trips around alcohol. All my social interactions included alcohol. Now I see people that can't have a children's birthday party without alcohol. They can't watch a game without it. They can't have a family function without it. It's a drug like any other drug but it's socially acceptable so people display their weakness with pride and have open conversations about what form they prefer their drug in. Many of those same people will look down on people who smoke marijuana as if it's somehow worse than their own drug of choice. I think there are people that can do either-or with little to no health implications but I think most people are probably lying to themselves the same way I did.
I definitely don't miss the hangovers or the money I wasted chasing that next buzz. I've never been a drug user other than occasionally smoking weed when I was younger but I can understand how easy it is to get addicted to anything that allows us to escape reality for awhile. It's still interesting to see how society views alcohol as not only acceptable but also as a social staple among everyone from poors to elites while, at the same time, looking down on anyone who chooses a less common vice.
