If you are just wanting to kill a few deer each year for the freezer and don’t care how, you can still do it with dog hunters near you. If you enjoy the peace, quiet, and no drama of still hunting your own place, I can 100% guarantee you won’t find that bordering a dog club. Every big group of dog hunters I have ever dealt with were mostly good people individually but turned into a gang/bully mentality collectively with zero regard for anyone else trying to enjoy their own property. Even the game wardens gave up on trying to enforce trespass and road hunting laws with them which is why it is banned nearly everywhere.

If you like shooting everything you see then get it and climb the property line and wait for the dogs to come by. You get to kill you a good buck but if your wanting a place you can manage and grow big deer it ain’t likely around a dog club. I had a 400 acres that butted up to a big dog club and it was the worst hunting I have ever seen. All they did was push all the hogs to my property and the deer were nocturnal all season long and most of the time when I wasn’t there I was getting pictures of dogs running through and people on side by sides riding through the property trying to catch their dogs

Not to mention every deer you kill will have either heeled up wounds with buckshot in them or will have festered up wounds. Even killed a few that was walking around with blood coming out the face, eyes shot out, marks on the antlers where buckshot hit them, broke legs, and also found several dead on our property. We dealt with it for 3 years until we were able to get our place in Monroe Co. We still have dog issues but it just aggravating non stop barking from the neighbors dogs or an occasional stray passing through. I can live with that.

I’m a still hunter! I’m also a member of a dog club in another co! All the dogs we run can be toned to stop and yes occasionally they run across property lines and we are lucky to have good neighbors around us and most of them will come run dogs with us in the mornings and go still hunt there places in evening and see deer.

We get in the stands with the kids and about an hour in we hear dogs barking. A little while later here comes a big pack of dogs running through our place chasing deer. We’re all like what the he’ll was that? The same thing happened every Friday-Sunday until January. But it didn’t take us long to figure out what was happening. We had a County road that split our property and the club to the north of us would drop the dogs to run through our property and would stand the north line. Some strategically place big bowls of food scraps fixed that problem. They’d drop the dogs and the dogs would run straight to the food. They got mad at me and told us to please stop putting food out for the dogs. I told them I put it out for the neighbors old barn dog. It wasn’t my fault their dogs came on our property and ate the food. Everytime the dogs would come eat, we’d catch them and go tie them to our gate next to the county road and call them to come get their dogs. They eventually stopped turning them lose anywhere close to our property.

You had to be close to our old place on Hwy 106 at Hank Williams Memorial Rd?

Trust me it’s a pain in the ass. I would not recommend leasing next to a dog club unless you like getting them turned out on you and have dogs all over your property every weekend and some week days. Have standers line your property waiting to see what their dogs run off your property on to theirs. Worst part is the gw has said and I quote “ well it sucks but it’s just something you’ll have to put up with because there’s really nothing you can do”. We he was right about one thing. It does suck.

I’d pass. Sounds like a great way to spend a few months being aggravated.

Hey they got rid of the problem and how many dog’s have you had to deal with? Not all are bad but there are some that are for sure.

I’d rather buy a pumper truck and start cleaning septic tanks- there would be less crap to deal with.

Or you could just go join the Dog Club, and have a Good Time. Hard to Beat a Good Dog Club, when Organized with good Folks & Dogs. Not talking about Road Hunters & Outlaws. I understand everyone’s opinions on that. But everybody is not Michael Waddell or Jackie Bushman, Sponsored by all these Silly Ass Gimmick Products.

The dog runners near us spent more time racing around in their trucks blabbing on their cb's on where the dogs were headed than actually hunting.

Well let me tell ya this. Friend of mine done found out the hard way this year. The fellers nxt to them can keep their dogs off the property they leased (they have all the fancy super expensive collars etc) but they are not, and the reason being is, THEY WANT the lease, and the GW won't do a thing, and the sheriffs office won't either.

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

I love hunting next to a dog club . I killed a lot of their deer ..

I'd get up on the weekends early listen for the dog to jump try to figure out where they might cross my place and kill the deer . I'd catch the dogs and return them . The club hated me .

Running dogs never hurt my hunting. Really it helped

Exactly - join the dog club because then you get to hunt both properties when your dogs run through the place you were thinking of buying.

It took us several years to get the dog hunting curtailed around us by going to the CAB. Hunting improved immediately and has only gotten better. The deer are still mostly nocturnal after several years. They might keep the dogs off you if they wanted to. The excuse given to us was “ dogs can’t see property lines.”

yeah i never used that excuse its piss poor at best . reason why the dogs get on other people is because poor shooting , poorly organized drives or the standers to lazy to catch the dogs and bring them out .

just to add : as for as running dogs making deer nocturnal ,,, i dont buy that , ive seen to many nice bucks killed on the same day as there were dogs drives and durning the week when there were none
