Son dropped the hammer three times on an Illinois giant and the primer never went off. This was the only times these primers never went off. I had sighted the MZ in myself and had no trouble with the primers. He drove all over IL looking for primers and went back to see if the gun would go off once he found some. Never saw the deer again. No pictures on cameras or folks showing him off. It was like he dropped off the face of the earth.
Five years ago during MZ season, I had 30 minutes to hunt and I went to a green field I plant every year. I always see deer on it, but they are usually does. I climbed my tree and no more than ten minutes later two eight points entered the field 25 yards from me and were broadside. I tried to pull my hammer back on the TC Encore and it would not cock. I tried for at least 5 minutes and the deer never saw me. When they left, I pulled the lever that breaks the gun open and I could not see anything wrong. I closed it back and the hammer cocked like it was supposed to. It seems you have to close the barrel pretty hard for some reason on this gun and I had eased it together trying not to make a lot of noise. I later killed one of the eights with a rifle during Thanksgiving break. Things happen.
I can't stand a thief.

Just out of curiosity, was it a true 209 or the black powder 209? Not that either is above failing, just curious. I really hate that for you! 209 riffle primer seated in a variflame adapter. Used specifically for the CVA Paramount.

I feel your pain. I was bow hunting Blue Spring new years eve morning in 1999, (yes I still remember the day), shot right over the back of a beautiful chocolate horned 8pt. Still bothers me today.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I killed a 128 5/8 in FL 17 years back. The one that bothers me though was a monster 12 that i watched for like 15 min in second feb rut that same season!! I was in a tree in 25 mph wind. Cross hairs kept going nose to butt - rocking like i was on the ocean. Never even shot - never saw him or anything near as big again 😀

The pain will begin to get tolerable in a couple days of years. Or, it might not ever go away. Ive got one from 25yrs ago that still hurts bad It will always hurt, I lost one about 10yrs ago and still fill that pain......

Hate to be so negative, but seek counseling ASAP. The pain is not going anywhere, and may cause you to lose your sanity in a few years.
In all seriousness, what a blessing to be that close to a brute and know that you would have easily killed him if your gear worked as it should have.

Yeah been 25 years (was around 18) since i azzed up on a big 8 in Choctaw County, and knowing what i know now, this Buck was high 150s if not more, several azzholes in the club kept trying to get close to my spot to get him, but they never did HA! It hurts for sure, but at least i had the opportunity. Ol' boy was lucky we cut the windows to high in that shooting house fo sho 🤦🏿♂️😆 That's a memory I'll carry forever, also got my first hunting over bait ticket that year 🤭😁
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!
