I was hunting public land this afternoon, (WMA), with my muzzleloader. A trophy buck walked out of a thicket right at dark and came right to me. I let him get 35 yards broadside and my primer didn’t fire!! Buck just walked off. Primer had a dent in it but it just didn’t fire. Only a 1600 dollar muzzle loader! I pulled the bullet and the powder out a few minutes ago and fire several primers through it. Must have been a defective primer. One of the biggest bucks I’ve seen in the woods in my 50 years of deer hunting.

The pain will begin to get tolerable in a couple of years.

That's really unfortunate. That would nag for a while.

Well I wish I had a way to help you, but I’ve got a mishap that occurred 24 years ago that I haven’t recovered from so May God grant you peace. 😂

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been very fortunate over my lifetime to be able to hunt in some prime areas of Alabama. This hurts because it was on public land!

I’d have wrapped the thing around a tree.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

You aren’t the only one.. and it will get better in about 5 to 10 years you will start sleeping again..
I will tell you a story that I still play through my mind 7 years after it happened. I was hunting with my 8 y/o son. He got tired of sitting so we walked around the greenfield doing some grunt calls. We made it back to the shooting house he walked inside and I sat on a bucket outside the shooting house. No more than 5 minutes after my butt hit the bucket was the biggest darkest antlered deer I’ve ever seen. My son raised his gun and flat out missed the 60 yard shot. To this day I am sick to my stomach that I didn’t shoot. I’m so glad he missed because he never would have hunted again because that deer would have ruined him..

Sorry about that one.
I missed one a few years ago and he showed up two days later for my partner. I now have to look at him every time I go to their house.

Happened to me last year. First hunt on our first time home purchased with acreage. Looked up and knew was a shooter. He fed down to 40 yds. Broadside working a scrape; dead solid rest and the most calm I’ve ever been shooting at a deer. All I heard was the hammer drop. Deer looked at me and wheeled off.

Same thing happened to me twice and that was the last time I ever used a muzzle loader.

Got 2 that still haunt me. One was 4 years the other 30 years ago. It’s doesn’t get better. Sorry they happened to you. Only time I’ve ever fired my muzzleloader I killed a 8 point with iron sights at 100 yards about 10 years ago. Haven’t fired it since

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
