I am thinking about buying me one. I am kind of afraid i will decimate the crappie population if i do. Do any of yall plan to get on here like on the deer and turkey and duck forums and plan to turn me in. I been fishing with buddies that have them and they are definitely and unfair advantage. I have also been convicted bout fishing with live bait do you think that gives me and unfair advantage?

Yes it’s cheating. Only cast at the big ones and schools of 15 or more. Get the grease hot you’ll be a catching machine. Enjoy the journey.

Because of all you livescope folks, us poor rednecks may have to go back to the telephone method. Or the blasting caps worked pretty good too. And if I really wanted to compete with you technolgy guys, I'll break out the old casting net, over thoses schools.

I’m undecided on the ethical/sporting debate on them……but they’re not for me

I see we learned to fish from the same folks. Do you know my uncles? I always wondered why we needed to stop at the fireworks stand (M-80's) on the way to Cypress Creek?

What is the difference in fishing with livescope and all of the electronics that one uses deep sea fishing? There is always going to be good, better, and best. Whatever the money can buy.

If you're after white perch, two words. Hoop net.

Yeah, if you need one to catch a fish go for it!! Same with decoys, corn, cell cameras, alabama rigs, etc. Use them if you need them !! I'm just messing with you, if I still tournament fished, I would have one. For fun fishing, I just wouldn't enjoy it. And for eating fish, I just want enough for a mess at a time. I don't typically freeze any.

I just wonder if the fish can keep up with the catch rate, reproduction wise. I follow a few crappie forums and know quite a few crappie fishermen. those that used to catch fish maybe every other trip or 3rd trip now limit 95% of their trips. Seems they never get skunked anymore. the worst thing is they keep limits every time and now that they can catch them they go 3-4 times a week. I have no idea what they are doing with so much fish. I guess you can't brag as well if you don't keep them to take and post pictures of ice chest full. Also where have all the crappie guides come from, they are everywhere now.

It does make me wonder if it will impact the population of decent size fish now that people can literally target individual fish

It already has on the Mississippi flood control reservoirs. Grenada is nowhere near the trophy fishery it was just a few years ago. I am glad I got to see it in its pre-livescope glory. The local crappie guides are keenly aware of what is happening and are strongly recommending catch and release and replica mounts only of larger females. It is to the point they will get upset if you keep one for a skin mount. They know the damage being done.

Some studies done on livescope and just fishing pressure in general. Trying to find a youtube video I saw that studied Bass Fishing Tournaments and the impact it had. The study was done on a very popular lake and it seems like between casual and tournament fishermen that only like 5% of the bass population was even caught. Pretty interesting.

Just cause you can see them dont mean they gonna eat. Do I catch more with it… sure…. Are you gonna limit out every time.. nope. I can guarantee you will get pissed when you are looking at a large school and cant buy a bite. For someone like me that only gets to go 1 to 2 times a month it makes what little time i have to fish more enjoyable.

One thing about livescope that few people are talking about is that maybe there are MANY more fish than what a lot of folks previously thought. Everyone knows and expects to find fish stacked on certain structure at certain times. What I’ve seen, and others as well, even during those times you’d traditionally expect to see those fish on that structure, there’s plenty of both singles and schools of roamers. Fish that are just out in space, not associating with anything. I personally think there are way more fish that we ever thought. We didn’t fish for them because we didn’t know they were there.

I was just messing with what I said earlier. I've fished with a buddy with one, one time, and it really didn't help that much that night. I couldn't fathum spending that much, my boat isn't worth that. Not that I'm any good, but my old boat seems to smell like fish most trips. But I'm just a redneck that likes to eat crappie.

I’ll admit this is me becoming a grumpy old man (and I’m only 38) but it irritates me to no end when I’m out on the lake and see someone else doing the “Livescope Pose”……..you know the one, where they’re standing up on the front of their bot fishing but they’re staring down at their feet the entire time they’re fishing because they can’t take their eyes off the screen. It’s like a child that can’t put their iPad down even at the dinner table. It shouldn’t bother me, it’s completely irrational, but it just irks me.
