I've been taking atorvastatin for a long time, from the VA. I read the thread about what to use getting off of this. I ordered apple pectin 700 mg/mk-7 (vitamin K-2) 100mg/CoQ10 100 mg/Nattokinase 2,000FUs. Which of these and how much for an almost 68 year old, overweight 6'0" 240 lb male? Thank you!

I’ve been taking choleast 900 and it brought mine down. It’s a natural supplement with zero side affects for me. But, my cholesterol wasn’t horrible to start with. Just needed it to come down some

Follow the directions on the bottles and when you have your next bloodwork done adjust accordingly
You can buy your own machine that will check your cholesterol if you dont want to wait and theyre not very expensive

and please speak to and get the advice from an actual medical professional. what you do with the advice is up to you but at least you'll have that perspective when making an informed decision.

Just know that supplements are not regulated by the fda. Amounts and actual ingredients may vary from lot to lot. Most “studies “ supporting their use are anecdotal reports published in magazines. Statins have many controlled scientific studies published in reputable peer reviewed medical journals that document their benefits. The natural products might work. We just don’t know. The products might contain what the label says. We can’t be sure.

I would think that he has to have a cardiologist if he's been prescribed a statin, so I sure hope that he talks to him about it.

Heart disease runs on both sides of my family. My dad had his first heart attack at age 47, wouldn't take the statins, and he kept stopping up and having heart attacks until one finally killed him. I made it to age 58 before having my first, had my second a few months later. They put 6 stents in my heart and put me on a statin, and I've had no more heart trouble for 12 years now. Having a stress test next week to see if I have developed more blockages.

I am all for doctoring myself, but maybe there's times to listen to the doctor. This is just my experience, and I know that there are some great heart doctors on here that will give you better advice.

I didn't have a cardiologist until the last year. No heart problems. No family history of this. I went to get the yearly $99. testing that Baptist hospital ( in Montgomery) has once per year. It was thorough and they said I had lots of blockage. Well, the VA sent me to their testing, which was very extensive, and included the radioactive xray and a lot more. They said "No problemo"! I don't now what to believe at this point...lol I'm taking 40 mg of the statin right now. Is that a lot?

It just so happens that I see the VA cardio on Feb. 1. I will bring all of this up and ask about the substitute meds. Thanks for the insight.

You’d be amazed at what can be accomplished by addressing the overweight portion. Reduce carbs and add exercise as permitted and tolerated.

Your situation is way different than mine. I don't blame you for not wanting to take them with no history of heart disease. Prayers for wisdom in making a good decision!

You need to get off it. there is a study on UK that shows how bad they are. Get off seed oils, cut out processed food, and exercise. Mine dropped 20 points after only a few months in the gym.

I personally don't believe cholesterol is as big a deal as they make it. You can buy a medical study that says anything you want, and the pharma cos have learned it's very lucrative to treat issues rather than cute them. And it's easy to create issues, just order a study.

Dr. Aseem Maholtra nearly lost his license for exposing the flawed science behind statins. This is a short clip but you can find more from him exposing the crooked doctors and pharmaceutical companies agenda and attempts to silence him.

As I started to get crippled up by arthritis/injuries/two neck and two back surgeries/getting to be an old fart, these things combined to get fat. Ugh. I've been cutting back but I have a horrible sweet tooth. I stay real busy around the farm but it is not enough. The dang knee replacement has really been a bad thing. I can hardly walk after a day around here and it's been six months!!! If I don't feel good, I eat...and I don't feel well a lot of the time. Just can't escape it. One of these days Heaven is going to come calling and I look forward to the new body there.

Refined sugar, processed foods and seed oils are your enemy and in that order
All of them cause inflammation which causes LDL cholesterol to oxidize and clog arteries

I guess I haven't been keeping up, but why are people wanting to get off statins? I started going to my Dr yearly just a couple of years ago mainly because I was concerned with my high blood pressure. Well blood work revealed I also had high cholesterol so my Dr put me on Atorvastatin which I have been on ever since. My cholesterol numbers are a lot better now.

The only way you will be able to change that is to alter your diet and get on some sort of exercise regimen. I joined a gym and hired a trainer. I see him 1 time a week for 30 minutes. They create a weight lifting plan around my torn disk in my back. I haven't been as focused on nutrition, but have started doing that too. I have been doing this for almost a year. I spend, right now, 3 hours a week in the gym. I have changed up my night time diet to a meat and rice. I air fry the meat, and just cook white rice in a rice cooker. Salt and pepper it and its fine. I am looking for a bigger air fryer, I got a really small one because I wasn't sure I would like it or use it, but its really a good way to go.

I see people who come in the gym who are over weight, and I don't see many of them, if any, really put forth an effort to lose weight. They come in and lift, which helps some, but then only do 5 or 10 minutes of cardio, and its not strenuous. The more cardio you do, the more weight you can lose. Assuming you cut calories too. There are all sorts of low impact cardio machines and bikes. I do the stairmaster for 30 minutes, twice a week. By the time I am done, I am dripping wet. My heart rate has come down a little as far as maxed, but still gets up around 154 bpm. My resting is down in the low 70's last time I checked. I burn about 600 calories per session on the stair master.

My wife was doing the keto. She lost weight quick. It was messing with her other ways though. Her hair was falling out and something else was happening more serious than that but i cant remember what. She had to get off of it.

Probably messed with one of the female hormones, while doing the diet.
