I saw something this morning taking my son to school that I don't recall seeing before. Best we could tell, a woman hit a doe with her car between I-65 and Acton Road. Deer was alive and alert, but couldn't walk. The lady was on the side of the road holding the deer's head in her lap. Traffic was backed up a good bit. A road crew was on the scene. I honestly felt bad about the situation and wonder what they ended up doing with the deer.

Broke hip or leg. Probably shot it. Seen it before once. Never seen someone consoling a hit deer though.

Used to work at International Park. Seen lots of deer killed right there. Nice bucks used to cross Acton Rd all the time.

Woman in front of me hit a buck one morning on the way to work. Broke both of his back legs. She drove off crying, so I went to the truck to retrieve my pistol and finish him off. Another lady and a young girl pull over and the kid gets out with a blanket. I tell the mom what I'm about to do, thinking she or the kid may get upset watching. Turns out the kid was just cold and they were wondering what was gonna happen to the meat

We retrieved them when I worked at the FD in liberty park. People hit two or three a year, we'd retrieve and skin them out. Decent eating for very little work.

Finished a doe off on the side of the rd (about 7am right in front a house lol) one am when i was hunting near Grove hill. Still remember the grin on the deputies face when we loaded it into the trunk of his patrol car 🤣 I swear he called 5 people before we pulled off, just to tell 'em we gots some meat! we gots some meat! 😆 Good times fo sho.

I hit a doe one night just below Boligee right at one of those small bridges. Damn deer hit the front edge of my right front tire, damn near caused me to hit a car head on coming across the bridge. I quickly turned around and drove back to the deer just as two of Boligee finest were getting ready to load her in their truck. They opened with "We're TAKING THIS DEER" , to me as I got out. (In uniform, State truck). .Normally I wouldn't care but they rubbed me the wrong way right up front, claiming MY deer. I informed them that when that deer hit the bottom of the trunk I was going to put both of them in jail for TAKING DEER AT NIGHT 9-11-251. They threw the deer down on the road and drove off. Ha, I loaded it and drove off and gave the deer away.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I was on my way home from night shift several years back and see something laying in the median and a car pulled over just to the side. I pulled up and noticed it was a deer with broken legs and a lady on the phone. I told her I was gonna grab my knife, dispatch it, and take it home if she didn’t want it, but she started screaming the police were coming and to leave it alone, so I just sit and wait. Cop shows up and talks to the lady briefly, then I walk up to the cop and asked if I could get the deer if she didn’t want it. He said no problem and went to dispatch it with his pistol. As soon as he shoots, the lady becomes absolutely hysterical. crying, wailing and all. We just stared at her for about an minute and then the cop helped me load it in the back of my truck and I went on my way. I guess the lady thought the cop was gonna scoop it up, rush it to an animal hospital, and it would become a feel-good story that would be on the morning news or something.
