Well it's that time of year again and this post will be long and have several pics. First off I am so proud of my daughter who absolutely fell in love with this event several years ago and now looks forward to helping and serving each year. She makes friends with all the kids pretty quick and is there to hang out with them, play cornhole, help them with anything they need, and she helps serve lunches and other stuff around camp. Knowing that brings tears to my eyes as I type this out, she is at that age where Dad might not be the coolest, couple that with the hormones of a teenager and lets just say we can butt heads, but this is truly where we both come together and are in our element, helping special needs kids. I've always told her these kids are just like you they just may need some help here and there. Maybe this whole parenting thing will work out where I can say I raised a productive member of society.

This year I had the honor and privilege of not only tracking for the life hunt but also guiding a hunter. My young man was Noah, he and his sister both have brittle bone syndrome. They are 100 mph though and nothing slows them down. Upon meeting them I knew we would have adaptive equipment to use. So the way they would hunt would be off a rest and button system with video scope. Once the deer was in the crosshairs I would hold the rest and gun along with a button that once I press he can fire the gun with his button. It's a little challenging but nothing too major, main things is getting it all set up. Couple that along with a wheelchair, camera filming equipment, a parent, a guide, and a camera man it can get pretty crowded in a blind. We mainly hunted out of ground blinds but when we told him we were gonna get off the ground into an elevated stand he was pumped.

The 1st afternoon we saw several does and spikes that ran everything off the field several times, well as we were getting ready to leave I look through my binos and see a nice buck, I tried to get the cameras and his scope to pick it up but there was not enough light. Well everyone knew the weather was coming so the next morning was uneventful and only saw a few does. That 2nd afternoon we finally connected on a doe at 175 yards and got Noah his 1st deer. I was able to welcome him into the brotherhood and got his face bloody.

Then the ice storm came, we decided to delay the hunt for around 9am. Well I still had to get over there before that so I loaded up and locker the tundra in 4x4 and drove the 40 miles doing about 35 mph the whole way, it got sketchy a few times but I got there. Noah got out and was able to take a nice 5 point cull deer.

I will say this I had the best time hunting with Noah, we were able to say prayers before every hunt and just got great fellowship and a friendship that will last a lifetime. When we were leaving out the last night, the dad walked up and hugged me and said thank you for making this happen, my son has asked me to take him hunting but I didn't know how, everyone here made that happen, as he started to cry so did I and we both just sat there crying, knowing we made these kids dreams come true.

That’s awesome glad the kids had a good time, on a side note just wondering if the stuff I’ve heard about Jackie bushman doing it just for the camera is true?

obviously there is a production side of things yes, however Jackie interacts with the kids and all that good stuff gets them footage on TV and all that. Realistically the kids are not in camp so to speak for too long, they go hunt in the morning come back for lunch and various presentations like Craig Kimbrell or David Robertson usually bring baseball stuff, then they go back out for afternoon hunt and come back for pics and dinner. The main focus on these kids is getting them a deer and everyone goes hard to do that.

As the grandfather of a special needs child Dano, I really appreciate your support in making these kids hunting dreams happen. I can’t say enough kind words for Buckmasters and all involved. And I love watching the hunts on the Outdoor channel when that episode airs. Looking forward to taking him as soon as he’s ready.

It is so rewarding seeing all these kids and wounded veterans get to experience some of the best hunting Alabama has to offer. There is always one hunter for whatever reason that comes down to the wire to get a buck and this year was no different but we made it happen. Seeing the joy on their faces is worth all the hardwork putting in ground blinds, setting up shooting devices, lack of sleep, and just going non stop to get them a buck. My hunter got to witness 2 young bucks fighting and he was so amazed at watching that, also seeing a hog, we tried to get a shot cause he wanted to kill a pig but the dang thing came so close to the shooting house I couldnt get his gun low enough to shoot with it on the rest. The parents are always amazed at the things we can do to make their kids have a great time, whether its toting them up shooting house stairs in their chairs or letting them drive side by sides, trucks, you name it we make it happen.
