I'm flying to Fairbanks for a haul road caribou hunt this summer. Unfortunately, there's no other reasonable alternative, especially if you're traveling with lots of gear and (hopefully) meat and antlers on the way home. you can fly with another carrier but it will double the cost after baggage fees and they don't play nice nearly as nice with firearms and meat.
