This movement is usually after temps warm up a little and the wind dies down as others have already said. That's what I was always told, they gotta eat to get calories and to stay warm.....I killed my two biggest deer when the temps were way below freezing, one in MS when it was 18 degrees and a heavy frost, the other in Missouri when it was 17 degrees, with snow flurries. The one from MS was killed right at day break and I heard him coming in crunching the leaves.....the one in Missouri was killed about 0830, but he was hot on a does trail.....
