There used to be a bar in Panama City Beach that had some great oysters and cold beer that we could walk to from the beach...No telling how many trays of them jokers I ate back then... Barnacle Bills? Nothing but cold beer and raw oysters.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Not to derail but not just with oysters, a lot of food makes people sick now days. I'm in my 50's and just don't really remember people getting sick all the time from eating whatever. What has changed? All the preservatives? What has changed are the number of people handling the food and the number of different environments the food goes through before the food gets to your mouth. It used to be one maybe two guys getting oysters out of the water and tossing them in a sack, then maybe a waitress pre-shucking them for you all in the same 24 hour period. Now, who knows how many different hands, machines, trucks, temperature changes, etc... they go through before you them. All it takes is one germ along the way to get you sick. Think about that big pallet of frozen pizzas at Walmart sitting in the aisle waiting to be shelved. That pallet may wait a real long time before it goes back to safe temperature, and how many times between the factory and Walmart did that happen? Try dat. But i remember hitting the Salt Water to cure any cut or sore you might have, them days have been long gone. We lost a good frien last month (was also our foreman) he got stuck in the hand by a redfish one trip, he had several surgeries (after being missed diagnosed for over a year) and never was the same, he got diagnosed with cancer 3 months ago and went fast. The Lawd knows we've kilt our rivers and creeks with pollution for sure 😔
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

I could eat 575 duzen oysters on the half shell. Louisiana the Restaurant used to have oyster tasting from around the county and some from around the world. A lot fun tasting the differences on each coast and so forth. Those coldwater briny oysters from the west coast were best in my opinion. Apalachicola 🦪 are very good too. Apalachicola beds are still not re-opened since Michael. Was down there late October; ate lots of good oysters, but they were brought in from other areas

However, there are farm raised beds in Apalachicola and Indian Pass that are growing and selling them.

Question???? Just what HomoSapien of lonnnnnng ago.....HUNGRY.....picked up an oyster and busted it open with a rock. Looked at that Slimy S.O.B. and ate it. Said hmmmmm.....not too bad.....believe I'll have another....and another....and another?? Just didn't have a Cole-Beer to go with it!! People did not have much food and they had stronger immune systems than we have now. You can eat moldy bread and drink sour milk and not get sick but it tastes terrible.

Barnacle Bills? Nothing but cold beer and raw oysters. Went there in July; they have a lot more than oysters. Full menu; had a fantastic grilled grouper sandwich and gumbo. And; some beer and oysters, of course.

My friend at Dauphin Island won’t touch one since he got sick eating one many years ago. His wife’s son harvests oysters out of bayou la batre
They say they’ll bring me a sack full next time they head up. Those guys running tongs harvesting wild oysters down here are a dying breed. My mom’s uncle used to do it. I remember helping them shuck as a kid. Fun times.

The only place Mrs. Irish and I will eat them anywhere near here is down in Rainbow City at Capeside Fish Market. Last time I was there and asked it was $2.50 an oyster to take home. They were 1.29 at Publix today. I get offers on face book all the time for $1 each but you have to buy so many and I cant eat that many.

I'm old, Willies Place in downtown Brewton had them 10 cent each, We would eat our weight in them.
