Its hard as crap to get the stars aligned with kids, is for me anyhow Dont be proud of me. We didnt get it. A buddy of mine shot it about 3 weeks after youth season. We only had two days, we knew where it liked to hang out, and I'm pretty sure I saw that it, but it was too far for both my 11 yr old and his 350 legend. Yeah, kids are tough. We had a decent buck come in on us in the rain, but my son got all caught up in his jacket and then was nervous and moved too quick. The deer was only 20 yards away and bolted. Lesson learned. He has killed two little bucks (his first) which is probably a better way to start anyway.

I don’t think it’s always the best idea to let kids shoot big deer consistently early on. By no means should you force them to pass on a big deer if it works out, but letting them ease into it I think helps keep them “hooked” long term

Well, my daughter(14yo) had an opportunity at a young buck the other day. 20yds and moving away. It went south every way it could. She ended up shooting at him over 100yds, missed, scoped herself, and has had two black eyes ever since. I screwed it up pretty good. Now she dont want to try it again this year. It couldnt have gone much worse. Kids are difficult, but im a terrible teacher sometimes Hate that for her. But you'll laugh together someday about that memory.

But, maybe that is just because I shot so many scrub bucks when I was young. haha
