I live close to Montgomery (25 miles) and she wants a shipping container to store her stuff in. I have 68 acres so space is not a problem. Is there anything I need to know about these? Will some flat cement blocks with 4x4 treated on top, be ok? I saw there is a place on the northern bypass across from the Green machine Deere dealer. Anyone used them? I appreciate any help/thoughts on these.

I don’t have one but I was looking into it. I would put either cinder blocks or 6x6 cut offs under it to lift it off the ground and make sure you have good water runoff. Or do a cement or gravel pad. I was gonna do one of the above.

On a side note: How the he** do women manage to have so much stuff? She has a lot in the two back bedrooms. We are retired but she works a little. She has clothes galore. A lot of stuff that I would just throw away. I have given up.

I wonder how much a 20' weighs? I don't know if the 8x8 cement blocks would hold up under it.

I don't have one and never have had one, but I have thought about building a house out of some of them.

The biggest issue I would think you would have is the lack of ventilation and that they are moisture traps. Maybe cut vents into one end with louvered and screened covers and on the other end put a solar powered vent fan.

I have read about doing that. It's a good idea and just use a solar panel to power.

They are usually around two tons in weight. I have one at my camp purchased by the previous owner. I store my SxS, mower, and a few other things in it. Mine is above grade but I don’t remember wether it’s solid concrete or something like railroad ties.

I got one in Prattville and had it delivered to Crenshaw county. Call Jack DeLuca and he will take care of you. Make sure you have a vent installed in the top so you won't have any sweating problem, they will install it and 4X4 will work fine under it.

affordable storage

Most shipping containers already have vents in the upper corners. You’ll notice rectangular protrusions about the size of a cell phone on the long-wall side of the containers.

I’ve got a 48 sitting on 8 double stacked pad blocks. Been there for years. It was at one time full of 250 gal totes full of liquid

They sit on the corners of the container.

"Standard Shipping Containers bear their weight entirely through the corners and so placing concrete slabs underneath the four corner posts, or using railway sleepers underneath the corners of your container, will typically prevent racking out and keep your container level and secure."

We have two at work one is on the ground and level enough the other is on un level ground and a little harder to close. Neither is on any other than dirt or gravel. They do sweat pretty bad at times though.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I saw a youtube video that said to use a waterproof barrier under the container, before it sits on the railroad ties.
