Lawdamercy. I’m pretty confident in my mechanical ability. I’m normally the guy that answers mechanical questions. This eze out has kicked my butt.

It’s broken off flush, in the end of an axle spindle, where a drive in grease fitting is supposed to be.

There’s nothing there to weld a nut to. I have used some souped up drill bits and have yet to cut a shaving off the eze out. Yesterday I got a drill bit from one of our MRO’s that he said would drill it with no problems. Again, not one shaving cut. The only other option for drill bits that I have is one made from pure Carbide. I can get one, but I have to imagine that it will snap being used in a hand drill.

I heated the eze out, and subsequently a portion of the end of the spindle with a torch until it was cherry red then tried to drill it. Still no luck.

Anyone got any idea how to get this son of a buck out?

This crap is important. It’s on my boat trailer

Eze Outs and Taps are obviously VERY HARD material!! However.....they are quite Brittle. Might dry a good Punch and see if you can Break it out in pieces.

I broke one off in an aluminum head last year. Had to take it to a machine shop and have it lasered out.

Those easyouts can work great, but my engine guy said dont ever use one again. He said he would drill a broken bolt for free rather than see some idiot like me using an easyout and breaking it off. lol.

Man, I sure can't help you other than to say, good luck.

I would say, call the man, but I guess you are the man.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

If ut is a good easyout then drilling it will be a huge PITA.

one method is if you left enough room around the easy out you can drill the bolt out with a small bit muultiple times until it falls apart. You will. likely screw up your threads and have to retap, but I have seen that work.

Ive dunit quiet a few times…punchit an leter eat..you may have to stair step up in bit size an use a little oil or dubya D...it aint that bad..but you gonna have to drill or liquify at this critical juncture of bullchittery🤠

You're about to the point of needing someone with a plunge-type EDM machine to burn it out.

At a certain point the amount of time and aggravation overcomes the desire to continue down a fruitless path. Buy a new axle or a new spindle and sleep easy tonight!!!!

To heck with it, leave it in there Brad. Buy a pair of bearing buddies and don’t mess with it anymore. It literally does the exact same thing as the grease fitting at the end of the spindle, just greases the bearings from the opposite direction. The grease fitting you’re fooling with pushes grease through the spindle to the back, through the bearings back towards the front. Bearing buddies push grease from the front towards the back. Fill it with grease until the spring starts moving, then you’re done. I wouldn’t waste my time trying to get that out. They break all the time. I just always install bearing bearings. It’s what I run on my trailers.

Drill the spindle with a small bit all the way around the ez - out. Then retap the grease port to a bigger size.

The one thing i thought might work is to take a hard punch and beat the ease out to pieces with it. Maybe then you could blow the pieces out with an air hose. I didnt have any luck with that but it sure sounds like a reasonable approach

I have used liquid nitrogen to freeze and shatter with a punch. I’ve had to do that a couple times over the years with liners even.
Drilling a small eze-out of any quality is usually not gonna happen

Smoothing it out with a grinder and going with bearing buddies might be the easy way out if it’ll work in your application

Carbide drill, good torch man with experience can blow it out, l have a 100,000 rpm air Dremel that runs 1/8 Carbide burrs. It went in, it will come out . Prolly have to drill and go with a bigger fitting.

A Carbide center drill to get you started would be good too. Gotta be careful with those hand drilling, breaking Carbide off takes it to another level.

If you take it off a Bridgeport mill and a center cut Carbide end mill will cut it out on center. I used to do stuff like this all the time when our maintenance men would screw something up.

I don't see how you were gonna get a barbed, drive in fitting out with a easy out. 🤔
