Went out towards Alexandria after that track and loaded up a nice buck. He was shot head on and the hunter broke a front leg and hit a back leg. The deer ran 3/4 of a mile or so crossing a couple roads and big fields. Took us awhile to get permission from several landowners. Pretty sure his back leg broke after jumping a fence. Ended up catching up to him within a couple hundred yards after that and got him dispatched.

Funny story…….Went out last night to check a possible hit on a buck as well as a doe they couldn’t find……This was somewhere I just went to a couple weeks ago….When I pulled up the president of the club was there and was one of the hunters, the other was his son….we’re talking about like a 70 year old and 45 year old just to set the stage for you…..The president starts asking about the track I ran a couple weeks ago and who it was for etc….. saying that they had some pretty strict rules and he was a little suspicious of some things that had been happening with deer getting shot that didn’t meet the requirements…. So fast forward now to us running the track…..Otis picks right up on a blood line and takes us straight to the doe laying 100 yards off the edge of the field…..Only problem was it wasn’t a doe…..it was a button head!!.. ....Oooops!!!! …..I was thinking….”Damn that conversation at the truck didn’t age well!”

Got a call that a 5 year old had shot his first deer and they had tracked it about 80 yards before losing blood. We arrived the next morning and Scout took us to more blood in a thick area. After doing a few circles in the thicket she made a 90 degree turn and headed towards a creek. She paralleled the creek for a way and then bailed off into the creek. She swam to the other side and didn't pick up on anything. She swam back sniffing hard in the water and kept swimming around for a little while. We finally made a few more steps ahead and could see the buck laying in the middle of the creek 30 yds further up. Deer had traveled around 375 yds from shot site. Straight gut shot. These are the tracks we love, first deer and great buck for a kid. https://sharedalbums.b-cdn.net/8fd31410-6d85-4f5f-ae99-c99193481a42.jpg?class=displayhttps://sharedalbums.b-cdn.net/52ac2fe5-aa7b-49e1-854d-2f3e2011ff02.jpg?class=display

Scout and Huck were able to work together again last night. Brayden (Hucks owner) had a track passed to him that was close to his house. He had not charged his GPS receiver and was going to have to run on lead so I told him I would come help. It was a boys first deer so that always seems to put more pressure on me. We started the track and they lined it out to where the deer had crossed the creek and then 40 yds further, then we were at where they found last blood. We didn't go but 100 yds further or so to where they jumped the deer. Then the chase was on. We continued to about the 1000 yd point to where we saw the deer laying down. I eased up to try and dispatch her but a dog had broke and gotten between us before I could get to it. The deer jumped and ran again. We could tell she was weak, so we just sit there a minute to let things calm down. We then proceeded further to where we found the deer DOA. Total distance was about 1250 yds. Deer was shot through brisket and into top of opposite leg. Even though it was just a doe, it makes you feel like you recovered a huge buck when its the kids first deer. Late night but well worth it! Scout and Huck are working well together, recovering 3 for 3 together this season (not counting the verified miss we tracked one night). https://sharedalbums.b-cdn.net/3a69e058-ecb9-43b9-b221-ffcc6b5a4f91.jpg?class=display
