It’s all gonna be in bags from what I know. I think it’s over 6$ a bag now. May be able to get a few cents of each bag if you buy that much. Do you have a co op close that has a lime buggy? It’ll be a lot cheaper but bag lime is easier to spread in some cases.

It be's that way sometimes.

Co op usually has it bulk. It was about $160/ton. Not sure what they charge to spread, probably $35/ton

Local co-op would be my suggestion. If you have what you need to manage a lime buggy. My local in Frisco City was around $88/ton bulk but there was a wait for a buggy. That was a month ago when demand on equipment was high. I no longer have need for that amount so I’ll pay the extra for the convenience of bagged lime.

Thanks for input. I’ve done the ag lime before with the buggy. Our place is difficult due to hills. Thought I might consider using spreader and applying annually in a rotation of fields. I think the dollars will lead me back to ag with a buggy unless I can find a way to buy pellet in bulk at a cheaper price 6 per bag.

Couple of questions, what’s your pH, CEC and Base Saturation numbers ?
My suggestion, shoot for a pH of approximately 6.5. Your CEC is what it is and can only change by increasing % humus for all practical purposes. Low CEC soils require less lime to affect a change, but there are fewer sites to hold Ca and Mg so you must lime more often.

Ideally your Ca base saturation is around 68% but should always be above 60%. In low CEC soils (sandy) you want Mg at 15-20%. Heavy clay soils the Mg needs to be around 10%. Ca+Mg = 80% (approximately)

Once you balance things by applying ag lime, you can easily apply pelletized lime as a maintenance application. 400 lbs of pelletized lime would cost about $60 at today’s prices.

If your soil test isn’t giving CEC and Base Saturation, find a new lab.
