Specifically a traditional muzzleloader not an inline. I know there’s a million ways, recipes online and they all say something different. Hot soapy water? Windex? Thinking of using some ballistol/water mixture at the end of season for mine followed with some rubbing alcohol and dry patches. What kind of oil/lube would be good to swab the barrel with when storing. What do the experts on here do??! And one more I’ve read some different opinions on bore butter in regards to lubing a barrel, what y’all think…

For BP/pyrodex I have always removed the barrel and used hot soapy water in a bucket/sink and used a tight fitting patch to swab the bore and clean passages. For BH 209 I clean it like I would a center fire rifle

Last night I pulled the ball on the flintlock and I always clean the barrel with hot soapy (Dawn) water.
I suck the soapy water up the barrel and let it drain, repeating that probably 7-10 times. Then I take a bore brush and bring the soapy water up into the barrel and commence scrubbing. After that I change out the water to new HOT soapy water and flush the barrel, making sure the flash hole is pissing well.
After that I run a jag with clean patches down the barrel until they come out clean and dry, followed by a patch or two of either isopropyl or denatured alcohol (it helps pull out any water and evaporate). Finally, I'll lube the barrel if I'm storing it with a patch soaked in Mink oil tallow.
Before I take it out hunting I'll run a patch soaked with denatured alcohol through it to clear out any oil or debris. YMMV, but this is what I've been doing since I was 13 and it's worked for 27 years.

You bet. Pretty much the same things you said already, but the mink oil is what I use to season the barrel, Just have to clean it out and make sure the flash hole is clear before use.

I shot my flint gun this morning. Barrell cleaning: 1) hot soapy water slosh with plugged flashhole. 2)drain 3)bronze brush 4)1 patch then another 5)slosh with clean hot water with plugged flashhole 6)drain for several mins 7)liberal amount of butches black powder bore shine swabbed with patch 8)sit for 10 mins 9)patch until clean and dry 10)healthy coating of straight Ballistol swabbed on with patch
Barrel shines like a mirror when inspected with flashlight
